I can't put together a coherent thought right now. But I really need to know the symptom, causes, diagnosis and treatment of strokes and/or seizures.

I know you want more details but I've been up all night at an out of hours vets and trying really hard not to cry in front of my brothers.

Before anyone asks I am going to a piggy specialist today. And I am using critical care as well.

Thank you for any advice you can give.

(i'm about to do some syringe feeding so offline for an hour or so, i'll be back to see how you're going)

A stroke is lack of oxygen to a part of the brain. Symptoms include muscle paralysis, eg an inability to use one or more legs, a head tilt, floppiness etc.

A seizure is scrambled electrical activity in the brain. Symptoms may present as twitching/shaking, abnormal muscle contractions (usually sustained eg rigid legs & neck extended), or it could be the opposite; looking vacant, unaware of surroundings and floppy.

Whatever is going on, good luck.

Be careful syringe feeding incase if it is a stroke, the neck/throat muscles may be compromised.

It's best not to guess at what may be going on, it could be a number of different things. Seeing An experienced vet is the right thing to do; they'll be able to give you more answers after a thorough physical examination.

Let us know how you get on!

Thank you for all your kind words. I just got off the phone to a to the specialist. We think it is a stroke but we are packing him up carefully for the journey.

Its quite a distance so I will let you know when I know whats going on. Probably won't have any news till late this evening but I will update from my phone when I can.

Oh no I am so sorry to hear this. I will be awaiting any news. I really hope it all goes well.

He had loads of the critical care stuff, he licked it off the spoon because I wasn't confident to syringe. It was like he was starving. He can't bite anything though.

Now we are off. Just going to get in the car. I'm so nervous. He just keeps running round in circles in the box. :(

Our Trip Results

I am relieved to tell you Bingo has improved. His eyes were flicking back and forth which we thought meant he was having neurological problems. However after todays trip and lots of £££££ the vet believes he has an inner ear infection. He has metacam and septrin to take and we also need to continue with syringe feeding critical care. Does anyone have any tips on that?

I'm so relieved. Last night and early morning we thought we would lose him and now . . . I'm hopeful. His progress isn't dramatic but there is a small improvement. He such a fighter and we're not going to give up on him yet!

Thank you for all your kind words. I think I needed comfort as much as little Bingo did!

Oh thank goodness for that. That means he will soon be better. You poor thing. You have been through such a lot with the worry.

Oh that is good news! I'm glad to hear that he is on the mend and that it isn't quite as serious as you had feared. We are all cheering and wheeking for little Bingo, and hope to hear even more good news soon :)

That's great news, I was thinking about Bingo while at the Gym tonight, pleased he is recovering.

Here is a link to a sticky Laura wrote on giving meds, halfway down the page it give's tips on syringe feeding http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=36533

Laura runs the Guineapighwlpline and produced a great factsheet on syringe feeding http://www.guineapighelpline.com/SyringeFeedingFactsheet.pdf it helped us no end wit hour dental piggie last year.

Hope this helps and Bingo gets well soon x

Glad to hear things are looking up. One of my pigs had an inner ear infection before. We also thought it was a stroke. I understand you were worried, cause I remember how scared I was. Its upsetting to see them so off balance. My pig was prescribed antibiotics at the time. She slept loads and seemed to be getting better, however, when we finished the antibiotics she went downhill again, so it turned out she needed a longer course of antibiotics. Maybe something to look.out for with your piggie? After an extended course she was ok, but her head stayed tilted. :)
Good luck and hope he will soon be back to his old self!

Oh dear an ear infection, poor little Bingo :(:(:(
