hi all! hope you are well, just a question today on smelly pigs lol! i have noticed my girl dellas wee smells stronger than her sisters and just wondered if this is something that can happen when in / coming out of season (currently coming out) or if it was something i should be worried about? or maybe its to do with her the meds she has just finished after a suspected UTI? her bum isn’t wet/ dirty, just smells a bit stronger than lunas however we have noticed della likes to sit in wet patches (like straight under the water bottle spouts!) so wondering if this may be causing the problem! sometimes when i pick her up I'm left with a little wet patch on my hand which just smells like strong wee.. other than this everything seems normal. any advice welcome please, maybe regular bum baths are a good idea?
thanks all!

Hi

Some piggies have fur that acts like a sponge and they generally do smell more of stale urine.

In longer-haired piggies, you may want to keep them cut short around the genitalia and back legs but a little bum wash with a damp rag can also help. Too much washing can dry out the skin and can cause cracks, so it is a balance act.
If you have an older piggy, it is worth having them checked for arthritis as that can limit their personal hygiene/cleaning.

Some piggies actually like damp spots and like to urinate where they find them.
