Struggling To Let Tea Cake Go

We said goodbye to Tea Cake this morning at the vets. He was quite bright but not very active these last days and his little body was becoming heavy with fluid despite meds. He went to sleep in my arms, still eating dandelions to the last second! It was very sad for us but the right thing for him I think. Will post in RB section when I can. Thanks for all the kind thoughts on this thread, it has been hard to let him go especially after the death of Bumble so recently.
 
So very sorry to read this laura, but what a beautiful way for him to have gone.
You really did give him the greatest final gift by allowing him to leave gently.

Oh my you have been brave. I'm upset cos he seemed a star. You did what I hope if I'm in your situtation I'm STRONG enough to do. He left in your arms and that's a very powerful thing to do. You did amazingly! Teacake couldn't have asked for a better mummy or a more peaceful and respectful passing. It's so hard to get the balance right between letting them go on and helping them pass but I think you were so brave to chose the right option for Teacake! Take some peace from the fact he is not suffering any more and knows you did all you could for him. Giving our little furry compadres a helping hand to the rainbow bridge is the kindest thing you can do when they're past healing. Take care of yourself and don't beat yourself up ok? So sad , but so much the right thing to do Laura.
Teacake will always have fond memories for me. I know that he has lasted this long despite all his health issues because of your amazing care, and his determination to keep on living. Dandelions to the end. Bless you TC xx

I am glad you do have fond memories of him B, considering he was a dating nightmare, bless him. Tea Cake 12 dates.
@pig in the city Theo is very unsettled this evening - not eating much and storming around his cage looking for TC :(. I have moved him back into the piggie room so he can hear and smell the other boys (he has been in the kitchen with Tea Cake in hospital 'wing'). Just hoping he settles soon.

That's very sad. They have been close for a long time. I am sure he will settle in the company of the other boys. Perhaps he and Ozzy might get on?
 
You've been so brave @lauraboara. He couldn't have had a better slave to attend to his needs, and you were prepared to make that most difficult decision. You loved him enough to let him go peacefully. Hugest hugs to you xx
 
Sleep tight Tea Cake, I'm sure he loved you just as much as you loved him. Thoughts and hugs to you during this difficult time. :hug:
