I noticed my dog was scratching a lot so I treated hr for fleas- however its still ongoing. Even though she has no ontact with the piggies can they have caught it? Are mites a dogs gets the csame type of mites? Should a sk the vet for invermectin for them all? Is it likely to be he hay its came from?

Piggies and dogs do not get the same type of mites. If your dog is very itchy after flea treatment, I would get her checked by the vet.

Skin parasites are generally species specific; they die on another host species.

The one thing that can travel between all species (including humans) is a fungus called ringworm. In this case you really need to be very careful to properly separate any infected piggies as soon as you notice, treat all piggies that have been in contact, disinfect the cage and furniture with an antifungal disinfectant (like F10 for instance) and wash/disinfect your hands every time you have handled infected piggies or their bedding to prevent transmission to yourself and/or your dogs. http://www.guinealynx.info/fungus.html

Always see a vet if you suspect parasites or fungal and don't home treat unless you really know what you are about. You can do much more damage with a wrong or inefficient treatment and it will cost you more in the end!

Aw I'm not going to home treat dont worry. I just treated Sophie for fleas as shes meant to get it done regularly along with worming. I was just worried whatever was making her itch would be passed to the piggies.
Ive thoroughly looked at all the piggies and there is nothing to be seen, no mites, no balding and all are maintaining their weight.
Thats good to know its species specific I didnt know that at all. The dog (Sophie, seems to be itchy at her neck a lot and around her ears, only dandrful is visible, shes going to the vet this week though anyway. Earliest I can get there is Thursday though.
What the symptoms, of the one that can spread between species? I had 4 insect bites a week ago, I take it this is not a coincidence?

Some parasites of pets, such as dog and cat fleas and certain mites, will bite humans leaving red, itchy spots, but cannot live on a human host permanently. If your dog has had fleas, the immature stages (eggs and larvae) may be in your carpets and furniture, so you should use a household insecticide as well as treating the dog.

Ringworm is not a parasite but a fungus, it usually produces ring-shaped lesions in humans http://www.webmd.boots.com/skin-pro...tanding-ringworm-symptoms-diagnosis-treatment

Ah ok, The flea treatment I bought said will kill fleas in the home too. But I will buy a spray for the furnishings as well. I am just glad the piggies cant catch it.
