Somewhere on the internet and it might have been here, I have seen a discussion on the Haybox hay - but now I can't find it! Basically is it any good as it seems very expensive. Using hay in the winter I have recently had to throw away an awful lot even from suppliers I had used before and in desperation (as want to get some in store in case of being snowed in or the like), I have been wondering about the haybox hay. Is it worth it?
 
My boys absolutely love it! Never seen them eat so much hay. I buy the 15kg meadow hay which comes in 3 boxes.
 
Also buying it that way (15kg) it works out about the same price as buying pet shop hay and it's much better quality I feel. One batch once had some thistles in it but its a natural product so I expected this occasionally. I must be on box 11 now and been pleased every time. Its always green and smells so good.
 
I use haybox. I get 15kg of meadow hay and 5kg of Timothy every four weeks. It is brilliant - lovely soft, green meadow hay. The Timothy is fab and my boys can’t get enough of it. They refuse all pet shop hay now and empty their racks of haybox Timothy within a couple of hours. Wouldn’t buy hay from anywhere else now

It's great isn't it. I may try them on the Timothy too. When I fill up their hay trays the pair of them come tearing up the cage and dive bomb into the pile of hay never to be seen till they've eaten their way out. 👏🤣
 
My piggies loooove Haybox, we've been buying 10kg of meadow hay and 10kg of timothy every 4 weeks for about 6 months now. Last week we ran out for 3 days and there was almost a piggy riot when they were presented with short dusty strands of bagged hay! The thing with Haybox is there's no dusty bits at the bottom you have to throw away, its all super tasty long strands- the absolute last handful dregs are still less dusty and longer strands than most bagged hay!

The short term replacement hays were still good quality, Pillow Wad meadow and Science Selective timothy... but no. Not having it. I opened a bad of Readigrass... erm, no thanks, maybe in a treat bag but this is NOT what we have after dinner or in the hay trays! Fussy spoilt little :)

I decided to go for a subscription with HayBox.
I buy 2 10kg of meadow hay and a small box of Timothy hay every 6 weeks.
Even the vet commented about what lovely hay there was in the carrier when Phoebe had to go see her.
My herd love it.
 
I'm expecting my second delivery from Haybox this week. The first 10Kg has lasted as 'eating' hay for 8 weeks and there's still a little left in the box. My monsters love it - but I do keep it in their hay bags to stop them weeing on it!

I use bales of meadow hay from our local livery stables for the herd's bedding. They eat some of that as well, but prefer the haybox stuff.

Yes mine tend to wee all over it unfortunately. Lol 😂

Wee on the Haybox?! My lot never do, instead they bulldoze all the Haybox hay straight onto the fleece in 5 seconds then wee in the empty tray. Then stand ankle deep in wee looking at me like "Mummy this haytray is empty already! And my feet are wet!" :)

I use back to nature pellets in the hay tray. (garden potting tray) they do bulldoze the hay out too though. Lol 😂
 
Just switched to Haybox and think it is great value, easy to store and keep fresh and it seems top quality - I wouldn't go elsewhere now
 
I think the only possible drawback of Haybox is its so easy to get out of the box compared to dragging compressed hay out of a bag that we always end up being very generous with it, but it always gets eaten- I think our hay consumption has doubled but that's great for happy healthy piggies even though it gets a bit expensive! They definitely eat fewer pellets now though, we use less than one 1.5kg bag of pellets per month for 8 piggies and over 20kg of hay- often they will eat their veg then leave the pellets and run straight to the hay, so some meals we skip pellets and bowls altogether and just scatter veg in the hay :)
