Both are heart pigs and were on Prilenal which though was working for them, was very harsh on their kidneys. I was advised to try to persuade the vet to change their medication to Fortekor which is much more gentle on their kidneys and the medication that most heart pigs are on.

So off I went armed with the wee test sticks I had just done, which showed as expected a high amount of protein in their wee, and the vet agreed, with no arguing. So am really pleased. This was my local vet too not the vet at the clinic we go to who is much more Cavy Savy.

Honey has blood in her wee though which the tests had showed and so has been given Septrin (which I also asked for instead of Baytril).

Am so much happier now. Nigel's weight has been so up and down and am hoping he will start to gain again now.

Honey bless her, got in the fleecy bed as soon as she got home and has not moved since. She even ate her veggies from there. Lazy bum.

Glad the trip went well, and that the vet agreed with you, I will be at my vets tomorrow with Monty hope I get the right meds and treatment!

Hope Nigel puts on weight - Monty's average is about 610g recently - I so want that to go up too!

Great news the vets went well. It's good that your vets are so open. Hope Honey and Nigel get better soon.

I'm glad you had a successful vets trip, its nice when they are open to your suggestions.
I hope the medication helps

I am glad that you got the meds that you wanted! Sometimes, a vet who is open to research new options and willing to learn is better than one set in their ways.

I hope that both Honey and Nigel will be better in themselves soon!

Thanks everyone.

That's now 2 approachable vets there which is great and will be really helpful in the future. Both pigs were good this morning, and if anything Honey was more lively so that's promising.

Great news Helen, i hope the change in meds improves Honey and Nigels piggy lives, chin rubs to them both x

Thank you.

The vets was Letchworth Veterinary Centre. I saw Liz and Jeremy is also good, did Nigel's xray without sedation on request and is becoming more and more savy. I also see a great vet at Vets and Pets in Broxbourne.

Where abouts in Herts are you?
