Just throwing this here because I'm a bit relieved, after losing Geezer we were left with 4 single boys and I always thought Surma and Eppu could work together seeing how they seemed very friendly and interested in each other through the bars. I had tried them once when Eppu was still a teenager and it didn't go too well, but overall I thought I'd try them again once they were both a bit older. At the beginning they both went in like a freight train, but after a lot of pee spraying and chasing, they calmed down. So far it looks good. I moved them to the big cage and the only one who doesn't seem to like it is Baldrick (he just has them trough a different grid, that's all, but he was used to have Geezer there and he was obsessed with him). I did it so soon because I'm off work these days and I have time to keep an eye on them.
Will try Rutto and Baldrick together once they had time to grieve. Just a bit concerned about Rutto still, though, he has a stone and it's only been a couple of months since the surgery, and he hasn't peed this one out, so I'm terrified the same is going to happen to him, but another surgery so soon? I really don't know, just making him comfortable for now...

Please do have the surgery for Rutto. I’m sorry that he has another stone so soon after the other but it doesn’t look like he’s going to pee this one out and he will be uncomfortable and there’s a risk of the stone getting stuck in his urethra which would be a medical emergency and fatal if left as the pee backs up towards the kidneys 😞

I am however glad that the bonding between your single boys as worked out x

Thank you Claire, I was conflicted about taking him to surgery because it was so close to the other, and the vet said it's likely some kind of metabolic disorder so he's probably going to make more stones. I don't want him to suffer or end up like Geezer (that's exactly what happened, unfortunately the exotic clinic was closed for the night and the ER vet had never operated a piggy...By the time we got there he had given up). His pee looks clear (no white deposit or grit), but last week they'd been both on a bladder relaxant, and the last stones didn't come out, so I'm sure they're already too big to do so. I will book the surgery then. Thanks for clearing my doubts.

P.S. The reason why I didn't take Geezer to another surgery is that he was still too weak. I was trying to buy time, and he was doing better, but unfortunately it happened again. Last time it was a long surgery but the vet saved him. We got lucky, if she didn't have the evening hours, he'd have died two months ago.
Rutto is a lot bigger, he would survive another surgery I think.

So glad you managed to bind Eppu and Surma, hope their bond stays well. I’m really sorry you are looking at another surgery again so soon, good luck, hope it goes well 🤞

Thank you🤞
Their vet is good with surgeries, I just feel bad for the poor guy, he can't catch a break. He suddenly started with the stones these last few months and at the last x-ray they had 3 and 2 tiny ones respectively. They managed to pee 3 out, but one stayed in each piggy. Geezer fought over a year, almost died twice, and this time I had to let him go.
I can't figure out why 2 out of 5 piggies are little stone machines.😖

Thank you🤞

So sorry for you, it must be really hard. I believe sometimes it’s genetic and some piggies are more prone than others

Thank you, yeah, it has been a hard year and I can really say we have tried everything. The last thing was making my own forage mixes, and it was helping with the discomfort (together with pain management and glucosamine). I've built an apothecary worth of herbs 😂 At least they have a lot of variety to munch on!

Glad to hear of the successful bonding.
Sorry that Rutto has a stone.
Hope all goes well with his surgery.
You’ve had a difficult time recently.
Holding you in my heart ♥️

IMG-20230427-WA0001.webpThey became good friends. The first few days were uncertain, Surma was snappy and they were both spraying quite a lot (oh god the smell), but no real fighting occurred and Eppu was strangely accomodating and decided that he'd rather submit after all. They've been lovely these last few days, with no aggression at all. Yay!

...So far so good, but gosh these two are rowdy! They roughhouse a lot, but don't really bite each other. The pee spraying got better, even though Surma does need a bum bath, his fur is all yellow 🤦‍♀️ Eppu tries to groom him and he's not having it so he gets annoyed, then Eppu gets annoyed and corners him and starts licking his eye. 😂
I think because Surma and his brother came from a pet store as babies, they didn't really have an adult boar to show them how to behave, while Eppu wants to show his love the way he learnt from Geezer who learnt from the best piggy grandpa ever, Tony.
I hope they don't end up annoying each other too much, they do look like a happy pair most of the time, and they share food with no problems.
I suppose it was my mistake though, yesterday I cleaned their cage and didn't leave enough old smell for their taste.
