I had 4 very happy, healthy and active piggies, up until this morning. I had one that for the past 2 weeks would constantly try and escape their large enclosure successfully. A few days ago, I figured out how she was getting free and closed those areas off, she hadn't escaped since. The pigs were perfectly fine and fit the day before and would sing every time they heard me near by. But this morning, 3 of the 4, not the escaping pig, but the rest I found dead. There are no external injuries nor bugs on them. I gave them fresh water and cleaned the bottles daily. They had 5 bottles total because they were water hogs. They had fresh fruits and veggies, timothy hay and some pellets. What could of gone wrong? My 3 year old, one of the 9 month old sibling and a new baby 3 month old all passed. Any ideas? Please help!

I'm so sorry to hear this, it is devastating for you. I don't have an answer, although I hope someone else on here might be able to help. The only thing that occurs to me is the heat - it's been so dreadfully hot, and although they had food and water, could they have simply become over-heated? I really am sorry for your loss.

aww I'm so sorry. I agree with the others - it might have been the heat, its been so warm the past few days. RIP little piggies

Aww sorry thats horrid, probably the heat. Keep an eye on the other one to make sure she is still ok. Is there somwhere cooler to keep the little pig while it's so hot?

I'm so sorry, that must be so upsetting for you. Did you have any thunder last night - this can sometimes cause death in piggies. But probably the heat as everyone else said.
x

It was actually fairly cool last night and today in Virginia. And I do have a fan I use if it gets a little warm and AC when it's too warm. I know when it's getting too warm because my 13week old fluffy puppy will just flop down on something cold and sleep. It's just really odd for 3 to die so randomly. I had a friend with 3 piggies and one passed away because of heat stroke, all were short haired. It seems odd for only a certain amount to be affected or not. v.v

Here they are all together. I used to put them in that tub for a few minutes while I cleaned out their home.

Sorry, I didn't realise you were in the States when I referred to the hot weather - here in the UK we are having it very hot.

Yes, sadly it may remain a mystery as to why it happened, if it's not due to the heat, and again I'm so sorry for your loss. But it's a sweet picture for you to remember them by.

I don't have a possible cause for their deaths but wanted to say how very sorry i am to hear about them :(

Offering my sympathies. That is bizaare that 3 of them passed so suddenly. :(

I didn't realize you were in the US too, it was fairly cool yesterday only got to 70 (I'm in Kentucky) so, yeah heat stroke is definitley not likely.

How is your girl doing now? :(

So sorry for your loss. When it is so sudden it could be heart or even a stroke. The not knowing is the worst thing. We lost our Flora in May no explanation, she was fine the night before. They hide illnesses so well though.

I do try and watch them all and note any behaviour changes but even then they are very clever and don't show it when they are ill.

Aw they were all lovely, no idea what it could have been then sorry. Really sorry for your loss x

Thanks so much.
I think my dobie misses them, he unburied them part way. He was laying near it for a little bit, the grass was flattened. He was pretty close to them.

Oh, and Mocha is doing better today. Shes they tricolored one. Yesterday she was in a bit of shock. Now shes back to squeaking when I walk past. She was the shyest of them and least talkative but loves to escape and go on her own adventures.
