So basically today oreo my guinea pig passed away? they were perfectly active yesterday when I had them out. I fed them veg,hay and pellets every day and also refill there water every day.
The cagemate cookie is still alive.

About oreo:
Breed:Abbysian
Age:One month 10 days old
Gender: Male
About him:he was a pet store guinea pig (they checked them other with the vet in the store and they said they were perfectly fine). He was also the calmest one out of the pair

I'm really sorry for your loss, it must have come as a great shock at such a young age. I would certainly go back to the pet store & make a complaint.

I know it is its my first ever experience for me for a pet death and my family to deal with a passed away pet. I got them from my local pets at home and they were fine when I got them. I will when I go to pet store tomorrow.

Sadly pet shops sell unhealthy animals who are often inbred and therefore have medical problems. When the time comes for you looking for a friend for your remaining piggy please use a rescue. You can be sure of a healthy and correctly sexed piggy. The rescue will also allow him to choose his own friend which avoids getting a guinea pig he is not compatible with.

Oh.(I didn't know that as I still have my hamster from the same pet store who is past 2yrs old) Does that mean for with rescues when looking for a guinea pig friend for remaining one its best to take it to animal shelter with you then?

Yes. They offer boar dating which means you take your little one and they will see who he bonds with.

I am so sorry to hear that this has happened to you. If you use the rescue locator at the top of the page it will show you your nearest rescue and they can help you find a new companion for cookie.

I agree with the 2 above . I originally had 2 boars but they never bonded. Unfortunately, I lost one when I had them neutered. So, I had a lone neutered boar. I wasn't going to risk having unbonded guinea pigs again. I made arrangements to take him dating with a local rescue Centre and my boar (Max) now has 2 girlfriends. I recommend using a rescue centre that offers a dating service.

my guinea pig isn't neutered though.

They offer boar pairing too - they call it boar dating but it is to pair 2 males that are compatible

I'm so sorry what a shock for you. I agree with the above recommendations for dating him at a rescue to find a new friend.

Really sorry for the loss of Oreo. Massive hugs to you at this sad time

RIP Oreo

Sorry for your loss, so young, it doesn't sound like you did anything wrong, like others have said they are often born with health problems from such stores, as they can't sex the animals properly which can lead to inbreeding etc. My thoughts are with you x

ok
I it was odd at first when I got them (as they didn't do anything like that when I got my hamster from there who is getting old now) they said they were fine and double checked the sexes to make sure they were both the same sex as my mum asked and they also went to do a check up with the vet they have in store.

I am very sorry for your loss! It is a very upsetting experience, especially when it happens as such a young age and so unexpectedly!

P@H import their piggies from rodent farms on the Continent. Sadly, the current indiscriminate mass breeding is resulting in seemingly healthy youngsters that can die at any age from strokes or heart attacks.

Here are tips on what you can do for your bereaved boy: https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/looking-after-a-bereaved-piggy.110463/
We have got a list of good standard rescues on the top bar that will re-bond bereaved and single piggies with a suitable rescue piggy under expert supervision at the rescue, making sure that character compatibility - the key for any successful and stable piggy bond - is taken into account. You will only come home with a new companion if things are working out, so you do not have to worry about ending up with two boys who won't get on.
