Hi everyone. I suddenly lost one of my guinea pigs on Tuesday night. Checked them in the evening and spot cleaned and in the morning she was dead: no weight loss, no signs. It was a huge shock to us all.

I took my other two to the vets for a check up and the vet was happy they both seemed fine, but Sebastian seems very despondent at home. He is eating vegetables but otherwise just sits in a fleece hidey. Olga seems totally fine and is still wheeking for veg as soon as she hears a rustling bag.

Is there anything I can do to help him? He seems so depressed and it’s breaking my heart 💔

TIA

I’m so sorry for your loss. What a terrible shock for you all.

Poor Sebastian. He’s grieving too. It’s early days for him. As long as he’s eating hopefully he will perk up again.

I’d weigh him daily for a few days to make sure he is eating enough hay.

Sending hugs to you all. ❤️

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s such a shock when it happens suddenly

Make sure you weigh him every morning as it is the only way to know he is still eating enough hay to maintain his weight (it’s good he is eating veg but it doesn’t mean he is still eat enough hay, and hay is their main food intake).
See a vet again if you become concerned about him.

Otherwise he needs time to grieve. The guide below also contains other useful information
