Sudden Paralysis in Back Legs

Thank you for this advice. I will read this now. His belly feels a bit softer tonight. I’ve given him just hay and nuggets instead of veggies. Plus I fed him critical care tonight. I’ll give him a bit more before bedtime. He’s definitely pooped less today.
Yes, Peanut is already in poor health, bless him. I love him so much and can’t bear the thought of losing him too 💔💔. He does have these spasms where his little body judders which must be neurological. My poor baby boy 💙😔😢

HUGE HUGS

The knuckles of my fingers are white from crossing them.

Thank you 🥺❤️. I got up in the middle of the night to check on Peanut. Every time I wake up I have this sudden dread that I will go downstairs and find he’s passed away 😢
This morning he’s had more critical care food and has nibbled on some cucumber which is nice and refreshing for him. He’s definitely not himself. I’m going to try and get a vets appointment with Peter who’s the piggy specialist. Peanut has done a few poops this morning so his system must be moving a bit more 🙏🙏

My fingers are very firmly crossed and my thoughts are with both of you.

PS: Can you discuss a payment plan with your vets? Many clinics do them.

Thank you.. I told the boarder last night that it’s not acceptable for her to say she can’t pay all the costs I’ve incurred until after Christmas, when this horrendous situation was preventable, had she not failed in her duty of care to my boys. She agreed that when I take Peanut to the vet she will pay for the bill. That’s of course only a fraction of what she owes me.

I think it may be time to let Peanut go 😢. It’s not fair to keep going when there is no sign of recovery. It’s been 6 weeks since his paralysis happened and Biscuit died, and 5 weeks since Shaun died. I will see the vet and make a decision then, but I can’t bear to see him struggling like this 😞🥺

Whatever you do and decide, know that you are doing it out of love.

I am so very sorry that Peanut has taken another dive just when he seemed to settle down well. But also be proud that you have done your utmost to give him a chance to live for as long as he has had the will to live and he wasn't in overwhelming pain and discomfort.

My thoughts are with you.

You know him better than anyone the bond and love has been clear we will all be here for you whatever you decide 😔. We have all prayed and kept you both in our thoughts throughout this awful time, whatever happens your boys will always be you 💙

You know your boy best... Whatever you do will be the right decision for you and him. Have a chat with the vet and see how it goes.

At least she's paying for this visit...

To everyone here who has been so wonderful and supportive, sending me and Peanut the courage, love and strength to carry on, my darling boy passed away in my arms about 15 minutes ago. I thought that Peanut was showing positive signs yesterday in the early evening but late last night he deteriorated. I wrapped him in a towel and kept him next to me in the bed. This morning he started doing that awful gasping and it wasn’t long before he crossed the rainbow bridge. I feel horrendous because I should’ve let him go sooner, instead he suffered for longer. I’m just in pieces right now. I hoped yesterday that he would rally around because he was eating a little and I was feeding him the critical care, but it wasn’t enough. Rest in peace my gorgeous boy 💙💙🌈🌈🕊️🕊️ Now you’re with Shaun and Biscuit ❤️❤️

You have done nothing wrong you have made every choice for your boys with pure love and all three of them know that.
I am devastated for you 💔
You need time now to grieve for your boys 🌈 do what you need to do 🌈

Popcorn happily over The Rainbow Bridge 🌈 sweet, precious Peanut, reunited with Biscuit and Shaun 🌈

Thank you for your lovely words. I feel so broken and it’s made even worse knowing that their deaths were completely preventable. There’s nothing I can do now, I can’t go back in time; Peanut, Biscuit and Shaun are at peace together, popcorning with all my beautiful boys who’ve gone before them over the past 6½ years. I lost Toffee, biological brother of Peanut and Biscuit, earlier this year, so they are all reunited 🤎🤍🧡🌈🌈

I’m so so sorry to hear this.
You have been absolutely amazing in caring for him, caring for them all. They knew your love
Sending you huge hugs

Thank you so much. It helps me to hear such kind words as I am full of regret and doubt right now, even though I know in my heart that I did everything I could 💔💔💔

Toffee will have been their to guide him as he crossed over 🌈 I do believe that they are all together 🌈
It is natural to blame ourselves, there is absolutely nothing you could have done you are a wonderful person that is clear so please try not to be too hard on yourself Nevaeh will help you through and remember your boys will always be with you 💙

I’m so very sorry. They are all back together forever over the bridge. You’ve done an amazing job looking after them. Sending you massive hugs ❤️

Peanut has made his journey to Bridge to join his mates, carried by the wings of your love. You have not failed him in any way since you have assessed and reassessed the situation at every step - no owner could have done better than you and you have done all the right things.

Please try to treasure your extra weeks with your handsome boy once you are past the rawest of pain. You have given Peanut the chance at life that he truly had; it is not your fault that it was not to be.

PS: Severe bloat is like a tsunami and comes in waves. It is not necessarily the first wave that is the strongest. You can never predict them (nor when they stop coming) as they can sometimes be several days or weeks apart; and you can never predict severe bloat - it always hits out of the blue. In between waves, a piggy is fairly OK. And some do actually survive, so it was still all to play for. :(

Be kind with yourself and try to picture your boys playing together at the Rainbow Bridge.

I know that this one is as cheesy as can be but it is also surprisingly soothing (unless you find it totally irritating).
It works for all ages: Rainbow bridge video I made, I hope it can bring some comfort to others

Thank you ❤️ You’ve been such a wonderful support throughout this awful time over this past 6 weeks. I know I still have my precious Nevaeh but I feel like a part of me has died now all my boys have gone. It’s as if one of my reasons to live has just disappeared. I know it’s just the grief talking and I should probably talk to a pet bereavement counsellor. Feeling Peanut’s little body give up on life was horrendous 💔😢💔

When you lose so many so quickly, there is a huge void in your room, in your daily routine and and of course in your heart. That is even more obvious with you being at home right now. It takes quite a long time to get used to it and to reorganise your life around this hole, with all the little unexpected reminders that rip open barely scabbed over scars.

Please speak to bereavement services after the weekend. The more you can talk about it the better so it cannot fester and manifest as PTSD in worst possible moments.

One idea to turn it into a family project: What about making collage picture of the boys from all your most favourite pictures so everybody has something included that is most special for them? Place bowl underneath the picture with a bag of whatever little tokens you feel appropriate (doesn't not be expensive) and place a token into the bowl each time you think about them - in the good and in the bad. That way, you have something to express your love and your sorrow in a visible form. Send your boys a loving thought each time you place a token in the bowl.

Thank you ❤️ I don’t have the strength to say much right now.. I am feeling sick just going through how Peanut passed away. It was so traumatic. I pray that he was already unaware and not in pain, but his front legs were racing as if he was running fast. I think his brain was already shutting down as he had a vacant look in his little eyes. Late last night he was making little grunts and snuggling into my neck. I am so lost without him and I just keep looking at the empty cage 😞🥺😢💔💔💔

Thank you.. I promise I will speak to bereavement services tomorrow or Tuesday. I have to arrange to bring Peanut to the pet crematorium as I don’t have a car at the moment. They offer a special pet collection service and the boarder is paying for Peanut’s cremation. It’s just that I usually like to go down there myself and say goodbye in the farewell room. Then I light a candle in the grounds of the crematorium.
That’s a lovely idea for a project, thank you. I definitely want to make a photo collage of all my beautiful boys 💙💙💙

I'm so so sorry! You tried so hard to save precious Peanut. He could feel that, could feel your love. He passed feeling that love.

Sleep tight lovely Peanut beyond rainbow bridge with your brothers and friends.

Thank you ❤️ I’m so heartbroken that I’ve lost all 3 boys so quickly and I couldn’t save them. The extra time I got to spend with Peanut though, was precious, and I’m sure like you say that he could feel how much I loved him 💕💕
