98) I am at a loss as to why my 1 year old female piggy should become unwell and die within a matter of hours. She was okay the evening before and I noticed when I went to see her in the morning that she was very listless, on picking her up she had diarrhea (like water) and her eyes were dull and sad. I took her to the vets immediately and the vet could find no reason for her to being so ill. Her heart, chest etc were all clear. Her temperature was slightly low. She was given an antibiotic injection and further antibiotics to be given the following day. I took her home and made her warm and comfortable. She hardly moved and within four hours she had passed away.
I had changed nothing within the area where she lives or given her any different type of food than what she was already used to. Her veggies were fresh and clean. So I am at a total loss as to why? There was not a great amount of diarrhea and it was not around her living area just where she was laying when I found her first thing in the morning. So it was a very quick onset. Has anyone any ideas. Thanks :'(

Hi Sylvia welcome to the forum and I am very sorry to hear about your pig. Sleep peacefully little one. x

One of the lovely ladies here lost her pig today with a very similar if not the same problem. Bacteria that is through no fault of your own can play a factor, I wouldn't imagine it was veg, not to cause that much trouble and so quickly too.

If you look through today's threads here (probably on the health forum) then you can read the replies Karen had to her question about it, one of our mods Mary replied to Karen (and she knows her stuff) about what could have happened.

Do you have other pigs?

Take care,

Louise

A few of my friends have also lost their piggies this way, it's very difficult to get them well again if they've got the runs :( :( :(

I am so sorry you lost your little piggy so young :(
I have read about this a few times and I know members on here (Boureki and Marty) lost their Blaze and Scampy very quickly under similar circumstances. They moved mountains to try and find out what was wrong but I don`t think they ever did :-\

RIP little one 0:)

Sorry we are meeting under such sad circumstances :'(
Sleep tight little one 0:)

Thank you all for your very kind welcomes. My little girl lived with 4 other piggies in a large enclosure. I have thorougly scubbed and cleaned this enclosure and checked all my other piggies and they all look fine and are acting like their usual self. It was such a shock for this to happen so quickly and I could not help her which is sad.
Thank you for your kind thoughts as well. :'(

R.I.P. sweet young piggie 0:)

So glad to hear that all the others are well and thriving. Sadly sometimes things like this do just happen. :'( Good luck with your lot! O0
