Someone has today told me to put half a teaspoon of sugar in Truffles water bottle and it will stop it freezing. Is this right and would it be safe for the piggy?
I'm glad you all said that cos that's what I was thinking. Yes I'll insulate it somehow. And I'll leave a lump of cucumber in there which is quite moist if she's thirsty and the bottle does freeze up. Had an icicle hanging on it this morning.
I don't personally think the issue would be so much for teeth (since they keep growing, unlike ours), as the gut, which really isn't suited to sugar or sweet foods.
I think the biggest issue with the bottles is that the spout freezes. I once heard that you could put a little vegetable oil in water to stop it from freezing, but I don't know how well it works, or even if it's a good idea. It would presumably just sit at the top of the water, as oil and water don't mix. :{
I don't think sugar would be too good for piggies! Best not to, just in case. Maybe you could wrap the bottle in something like a tea towel or blanket. Lol, I just had a silly thought. Maybe you could make a bottle warmer out of fleece!
For outisde bottles I use a thick layer of bubble wrap around the bottle and then pop an old sock over the top to keep it in place - works like a dream
