Suggestions For Cage Base Needed

i am going to make a bigger cage for Smudge (got the ok to build something the entire length and width of the shelf her cage is currently on, the only thing I was asked to incorporate is to make sure the kids can not stick their fingers through the grids/bars. Is there something like clear plexi that I could use for the bottom base (so they can see her but not touch her) or would the thin wire mesh be better?

Many people use clear plexi for the sides of their home-made pens. I can’t see why it couldn’t be used for the base but the base will be covered in bedding etc so won’t be see-through anyway?

Wire should definatley not be used for a base as it causes lots of foot problems beyond being painful to stand on

Sorry I meant for the sides not base. I will be covering the floor of the pen/cage with fleece - bought some today to make some cage liners- just need to wash it first.
Thinking I would somehow attach the plexi to the cube grids - just need to figure out how and then how far up- but first I will need to find affordable plexi here in the states

Ahh, yeah - lots of people use plexi sides! Not sure how you’d go about attaching them to grid sides
