My guinea pig has some dry skin. I have been keeping a close eye on it for the past 2 weeks,he has 2 very dry patches on both sides of his back that he has been scrathing more and more.He just had his check up about 6 months ago,and he was in perfect health.I just noticed his dry skin the past 2 weeks. Our other piggie had worse dry skin, the vet tested him for mites and he was negative but gave us medication anyways and his skin has improved alot, he still has dandruff but the scrathing has stopped...I had come to the conclusion that guinea pigs have sensitive skin and some dandruff and scratching is common?...what I would like to know is does anyone have any suggestions for at home remedies we could do to make their skin healthy? They get plenty of vitamin C,every day they get a slice of green bell pepper, and I give them a variety of other veggies with vitamin C...would baby shampoo be safe for them? I also saw online fruit helps give them healthy skin, but I thought it was too sugary for them so I have always avoided it in their diet...thanks for any suggestions!

Have you given your piggies a bath after the course of mange mite treatment was over?
My girls has the dandruffy skin and the best way to get rid after the course of the treatment is to give them a bath as it gets rid of the dead skin and helps promote hair regrowth.

Gorgeous Guineas has good soothing shampoos for itchy skin. http://gorgeousguineas.com/recommendations.html

:)HTH
