Looks nice, but I would add in another couple of hideys. You should ideally have at least one hidey per piggy. Not all piggies will want to share a hidey or sleep together so they will require their own bed space.
Does the ramp have a grip section on it for them to walk on? It just might not be clear from the photo!
Can you tell us a bit about the pair you are looking at?
Can you glue steps to the ramp? Thanks. No it doesn’t have a grip - what do I use for that? Shall I remove in the interim? Will make another house out of cardboard (assume that’s ok - can buy a couple if not)
From what I’ve been told they’re one year old girls. Were left at the centre whilst owners went on holiday, and 10 weeks later they’ve not been collected and are ignoring messages. One long and one short haired. No other info as yet.
For you have any extra grids to put around the top of the loft? I’d be worried they might climb out. Looks lovely though!
The roof of the loft looks a little low to me. If they decided to popcorn they’d possibly knock themselves on it. I would put grids around vertically rather than do a roof like that. And add another bottle as well. Otherwise all looks good.
PS I cut carpet tile and stuck to the botanical ramp with carpet tape.
Yeah that does look low. I saw some grids to the right near the wall. Could you use them?forgot to add the photoView attachment 145267

That's a really nice set upI think we’re ready. Have got bedding to go in the litter tray, hay and pellets. Does the setup look ok?
Hopefully the pair at the rescue will be suitable and we’ll be able to see them tomorrow.
The ramp would have to be made longer to cut down on steepness if you did decide to raise it. Which would mean a little less floor space on the lower ground.theyre for the roof but could do. So would you recommend making it a full grid height? Would make the ramp quite steep possibly which is the angle they use on their website for having it at half height. May just take that section out for now

How old are your daughter’s friends?
It’s likely okay but it may be a case of personal preference. Some people may find it’s an okay height but I would prefer something with a higher roof. You can always just remove the loft for now and put it back when you have more grids to use on the sides.5 - was mainly in case I needed to leave the room for a moment. Might just take them loft and ramp out until they’re settled. I wouldn’t want to put them at risk. I’ll also contact the place I got it from as if it’s dangerous they shouldn’t be selling it.
Having the loft at that height (ie half a grid up rather than a full grid up) is quite normal if you are going to have a full lid on the cage. Mine used to be like that until I changed my set up rather dramatically!
Hope you all enjoy meeting the girlsCan’t wait to see pics!
they’d gone sadly. After some upset and much conversation she is happy with boys too. I’ve been told they can be friendlier and settle better. They will also have been at the rescue longer so hopefully we’ll get a good match. We’re going to look at them tomorrow at midday. Have been out to get the extra water bottle which helped with the disappointment. I’m just hoping she’s not up at 5.15 again tomorrow!
That’s a shame, but perhaps it wasn’t meant to be and your perfect piggies are still out there!
What I will say about boys is that friendlier and settling better isn’t necessarily the case, it’s about character rather than their sex - I’ve got two boys and one of them is comfortable to be with me but the other is not confident even after two years of being with me.
Boars also need more space than sows - a 2x4 c&c cage can be a little on the small side for two boars, and a 2x5 is best for them to give them their own territory and prevent fall outs. It’s even more important with boys to ensure you have multiple of every item to prevent hogging and any territorial behaviour.
That sounds quite negative but it’s not meant to be, just wanted to inform you of the slight differences in the requirements of boars rather than sows.
You're right, the picture shows only 8x8 and that means the holes are too large. The best thing to do is to make sure that whatever you're using as a base goes a decent way up the sides with no gaps. If you have babies, that applies to a 9x9 too, as babies can get their heads stuck through their holes of a 9x9. You could fix some corrugated cardboard behind the coroplast if what you bought originally isn't high enough.I also got that exact same cage from KaveeCages but found out later that the grid spacings are 8x8 rather than 9x9 which isn't recommended as apparently they can get their heads stuck. I'm a very newbie owner as well (so please correct me Guinea Gurus if I'm wrong!), and only realised after some Googling when one of my new babies was very much outside the cage the morning after we got her.
