I know of someone (through somebody else) who currently has their two piggies living outside (and have always lived outside). Whilst they have insulated hutches (next to each other), I can't help but feel for them being outside in all weather's, especially at the moment. Both piggies are about 4/5 months old. They thought they had two sows, but it turned out that one was a boar. The piggies were separated as soon as they realised, and the sow is on pregnancy watch. The boar has since been neutered and his 6 weeks post op is 16th December. They only have a small home, and say that they don't have room for an indoor cage at the moment, but are hoping to build an extension in the near future, so that their piggies can then live indoors.

I am wanting to offer them a donation of our now unused "starter cage" which is a 120 x 60cm Ferplast (on a stand with wheels), in the hope that they can find space for at least this indoors. Please can I check first though if this would be big enough for both piggies (it doesn't look likely that there will be babies to add to the mix, as I believe the sow has been checked by a vet) on a temporary basis, until the weather starts to get warmer again.

In the meantime, I have let them know to use plenty of hay, and also snugglesafes/cosy pods along with their insulation.

Oh dear what a predicament. Your 120 cm cage is absolute minimum for a pair but they couldn’t share it until the boar is 6 weeks post op, otherwise there’s every chance of him still impregnating the sow. And a 120 can’t be divided. Could they fit your 120 in the house plus anither commercial cage stacked on top for the boar to live in for a couple of weeks?

Thank you for letting me know that the 120 cm is absolute minimum, Vicki. I will get in touch with them and offer my cage on the basis that they get another cage to stack on top until the boars 6 week post op date. I must admit that the 120 cage looks now tiny compared to our 180 x 60 cage, but hopefully it will do to get their piggies into the warm on a temporary basis.
