Hello.

I'm preparing myself for a difficult situation regarding my guineas coming up this August.

I'm a stand up comedian, and thus I am going up to the Edinburgh Fringe festival for a full month. Now, I know my ladies, and I know that the stress of the journey and the relocating will not make them happy. So taking them all the way from Brighton to Scotland is, unfortunately, not an option.

Besides this, at the end of August, my tenancy agreement ends. This means that I will have to move house. However, due to being in Edinburgh for a month, there is a chance that I won't find housing immediately. Leaving me to live on friends' sofas for a while. Now relocating every so many days is not something I want to put my ladies through either.

So basically, I'm looking for a place in/near Brighton that will take care of my guinea pig ladies for more than a month.
I've looked online for boarding facilities, but I find it difficult to gauge how respectable these places are.
If any of you have recommendations of places that will definitely take good care of them, I'd love to hear it.

I really don't like the idea of not seeing Koffie and Dolly for more than a month, but it will be easier knowing they're taken care of by someone who loves guineas just as much.

I hope you can help!

That looks amazing!
However, my guineas have been indoor guineas all their lives. I don't know how they would cope with being outdoors.

I could look after them, I live in Haslemere, Surrey, so I'm about an hour away so it might be too far but if you need me too.
Sorry I don't mean to step on anyone's toes by offering, Guinea-Pig Getaways looks brilliant :)

Hi,

I know a lady in eastbourne that may take them in think she has started a boarding programme and she also rescues

I can get her detail's for you if your interested?

@Alicia: Thank you for the offer! Haslemere is a little bit of a distance, so I'd have to arrange a lift. I'll keep you updated. I'll probably let you know sometime next month, if that's ok?

@Lily: I would definitely be interested in the details of the lady in Eastbourne :)

Thank you all so much! It's good to know that there are places for my ladies.

I forgot to say that part of the difficulty of arranging such a long stay, is that (understandably) all places charge a daily fee of around £5. Of course I understand the costs that are included in caring for the piggies and I don't expect anyone to do this for free. In fact, I'd prefer no one to do it for free. However, a month's worth of care would cost me £150, which is a scarily large fee for a student.
Now, if it has to be paid, it has to be paid. I carry responsibility for these creatures and I've made the decision to go away for a month, so I can't be selfish. However, if there are cheaper options, I would be very grateful.

I am not a boarding place but I could look after your piggies for you as long as you paid for food and their bedding and any vet treatment they might need in that time I am Northampton though so a little way still.

Hello, I am Doeylicious, owner of Guinea Pig Getaways :)

I would love to help you with your situation if you would like me to, there are obviously some aspects we need to discuss in detail though, but just to cover two of your concerns to begin with...

1 - Moving outside - I have boarded and will be boarding guineas that live indoors here, outside in my outdoor hutches, and ~touch wood~ all have been fine. This is largely as I am only really open from April to October, when my own piggies are outside and the temperature is (usually!) relatively warm. All my hutches can and will be covered if it gets cold, and I have heat pads too to keep anyone who needs it warm. Basically, if I weren't happy having my own outside, I wouldn't have anyone else's outside (and this mantra of 'if I wouldn't do it with my own' carries throughout all aspects of piggie care here). My only concern here would be how long you might not be in your new place for, if it went into the colder months, but of course I am not sure what your personal plans are re this, so something we would need to have a chat about.

2 - The cost - I offer a long stay discount for anyone over 16 nights as a rule regardless. Given the length of time you would need the ladies to stay here, I am sure we can work something out - I certainly wouldn't charge you the full rate for such a long stay. My usual Ts and Cs re vet bills and supply of dry food (I ask all guests to bring their own if I don't have it so they don't upset their tummies) would apply.

As a clearly caring owner you probably have a load of questions you'll want to ask anyone who has them, so if you are interested in them coming to me please do email me or give me a ring. If you get the voicemail please leave a message and I'll call you back. You are also more than welcome to pop up and visit, but I am afraid you will probably have to cuddle at least half of my twelve own guinea pigs or they will get very upset! We are about ten mins from the top of the M23 and are about ten mins walk from a station on the Brighton to London mainline

I have had a quick look in the diary and we are very nearly fully booked for the first week in August, the rest of the month is clearer as guests from July start to go home. I am happy to keep the space clear for you but would ideally need to hear from you quite soon if you are interested if that's ok :)

Hello Doeylicious!

All of this sounds absolutely great. Your location on the train line is ideal, as I won't be dependent on other people to drop off/pick up the piggies.

I shall send you an email tomorrow with some questions and details regarding care and pricing.

Thank you for all the information!

Oh and I might just come over to cuddle 12 guinea pigs anyway, as that sounds like a lovely way to spend a day ;)

Just to give you a choice there is Sandra near Tunbridge Wells who runs holiday hutches....... first class accommodation and service, I am biased as she is fostering some piggies for me and is very knowledgeable with illnesses like fungal infections.

http://www.holidayhutches.co.uk/ and if you mention crawley guinea pig rescue she may give you a discount!
