Summer hair cut?

As you can tell, she's very pretty x) She's also very floofy and I'm wondering how best to give her a summer hair cut. The weather is getting nice and warm and she needs it trimming back. I've never had a long haired piggie before, and I have no idea how much to take it back. Because of her breed her fur is also very thick and wooly, and I don't want her to overheat!

Can anyone help me?
 
You should see my lionhead rabbit after hair cuts ... she ends up looking like she has been dragged through a lawnmower ... but hey I still love her even with her dodgy hair cuts.

My brothers dog gets her fur cut by me when it gets hot ... I just hack it off she doesnt care what she looks like so why should I hahaha

That doesn really help but :-)

Have you thought of giving her a granite slab or something so lay on if she gets too hot? She might be fine in her coat.
 
x) x) She is very pretty. We used to trim our long haired girl in the summer. Just give it a little trim, hold it at the roots as you trim so you don't pull her fur...
 
I have no experience what so ever at grooming guinea pigs but I do groom my poodle, looking at your pig, her hair is shorter around her face, I would use that as my guide, at the pigs nape (Back of the neck) is where I would start and taking a small section About half a CM) between my fingers runing along the back in direction. level the longer hair with the short hair at the back of her head, holding the length perfectly straight up from the body, so you have both sections of hair in between you fingers and you can use the short length as your guide, use your fingers to rest your scissors on like the hairdressers do, and cut off any hair above your fingers. Once you have made your first length cut continue to pick up a small section of the cut fur to use as your length guide over the rest of the pig, holding it straight up from the body, that way it will be the same length all over, you will also need to try and keep in mind the shape of the body under the fur, so may need to angle your fingers accordingly to the body. It will be quite short, but she will be cool, if you dont want to go that short you can decide to keep it a bit longer, but just use the same priciple. Thats how I would do it anyway;)
 
^^agreeing with the above, i had my piggies cut last month by 'harold the pig' on here, amy, and she's a dg groomer :)
I had to give them another trim this week, trying to keep on top of it as opposed to putting it off so i sat outside with one at a time on my lap and just kept trimming shorter and shorter, i think it'll definately be better for summer :)
 
I had a similar piggie a few years back and she didn't like me cutting her fur so the vets nurses used to do it for me when they went for claw clipping, not a top salon hair cut but it did the job :(|)
 
I don't mind cutting her fur and I have given her a trim before, but that was simply because it was getting too long. Now I'm cutting for the purpose of keeping her cool, I just don't know how much to take off! lol

Just cut off a small amount to start off with....... i usually put my fingers into the hair/quiff then separate into sections and then carefully trim away, i usuall go back over her to even things out. Oh yeah i brush in between too, you can feel the really thick parts that way, that's the areas i tend to concentrate on....

the other option if you have a pair of clippers that would be a quick way to do it, you can use attachment combs so it doesnt end up too short, I would say you would want a comb that leaves about 10 or 15 mm. The comb attachments normally have written on them the length they leave the hair. I dont know how a guinea would react to the noise/vibration though, a guinea might just freeze in place making the job easy, lol:(|) but dont ever just use the base blade on the clippers uless you want your guinea to look like a skinny, lol:(|):(|)
 
All my piggies with this kind of coat were butchered yesterday... :))
I just cut it back quite short all over...
I'll post a before and after of c-section pig if you want... She's a textel so has the thick wirey coat aswell... She looks a right mess bless her... But atleast she's not too hot... :))

I cut Mr T's lovely long white skirt off after he had got abit excited with the girls rolleyes
I ended up layering his hair in so it would keep short and not be as thick, when picking up a layer of hair, cut what you want off the length (straight across) and then cut into it roughly, this will create different lengths and will thin it out.

usually my guineas bite each others skirts off but they dont seem to be doing that now so ill have to do it! They get along fine but the dominant boar barbers the subordinate boars skirt
 
Thank you for your advice and pigtures people, I will hopefully be giving Bernadette her lovely summer hairdo on Sunday, whilst my OH watches the other lovely lady :) x
 
My wooly rug, Arran needs a cut too but OH isn't keen, she loves his long curly locks but he is getting pretty hot... I've just given them all a bath as they desperately needed one and it has helped cool them down a bit.

I might well model him on C-section pig's lovely do!

Will definately need to take before and after pigtures as his hair is about 3 & 1/2" ringlets just now!
 
Bernadette had her first summer hair cut today, she was not happy about it but put up nonetheless - particularly when I gave her a small slice of melon! Will post pigtures when I get them off my OH.

Anyone else got summer hair cut pigtures to share? :) x
