Ok prepare yourself for pics of the very lovely Leonard and his lucious locks!
He is very shy but posed very bravely for me and my daughter today.

Leonard is my only boy with long flowing hair and I am still adjusting to the extra care but really enjoying the brushing. xoxo
can any of you slaves of long haired piggies give me any hints on hair cutting? Just feel that Lenoard could do with shorter hair for the summer for going on grass (if it ever dries). He does not appear to know what grass or sunshine is (he was one of the piggies rescued from a skip:() but I would like him to be able to enjoy outside runs with lighter, salon fresh hair! Any tips?
quiff or no quiff?

He is such a handsome boy! He has gorgeous streaks, I love it! I hope you get to find a lovely new hairstyle for him :) x

I generally cut my longhaired piggies very short around the bum area to prevent matting and soiling, and make sure that any hair on the sides and around the feet is not touching the ground - it is much easier (and agreeable to the piggies!) to groom them when their hair is not too long to tangle up all the time. No hair in the eyes. Please be aware that the hair will grow back quite quickly!

This was Caron with her extra short hot weather hairdo last summer:

I'll be keeping an eye on this as I now have a long haired piggy. His hair grows in lots of different directions though?!

What an awesome looking piggy! How could anyone put him in a skip?! :)>>>

Anyway I would deffo keep the quiff as I feel this gives piggies character and it doesn't usually impede them in any way. Please remember to securely cup his man bits if trimming near his behind!

You've got to be kidding !

Oh my goodness !

When did I see Leonard last? No more than.. a month? Is it longer?

Leonard is still my Facebook profile piggie, for those that are my fb friends you see him all the time, but my goodness his hair has sprung to life!

To explain to members, Leonard was found left with a load of pigs at the dumps.
When found they were taken to the vets and the nurses treated and cared for them, sadly some didn't make it.
Leonard came to me via Barnsley Animal Rescue as his foster mum.
He worried me at first as he was so traumatised, he used to either freeze or hide.
However he was paired with the Italian mafia man aka Mr Barney Bubbles, and his beautiful calm personality shone through.

Looking back on my threads (he arrived the day my poorly Pepper died) his hair had been cut short presumably by the vet nurses.

He looks amazing, and I know you work very hard with all your piggie boys, but especially your routine of handfeeding them their daily veggies has gained his trust - you are a wonderful piggie slave!
It's great to see the Piggies in their forever homes that have been in rescue.

Laura, I'll see you next week, we can do nail trimming and hairdressing with cake? :)

Hi Paula - Sounds like a brill plan - have bought some special hair cutting scissors from Boots for Leonard! Thanks for kind words too :)p I do think that the hair cut may be a 2 slave job and husband is not good with handling gps so would be excellent to have your skills!

Thanks to Wiebke for hair cut photos too - it gives me some confidence to go quite short for the summer. Caron does have a slight 'Rod Stewart in the spikey stage' thing going on in that last pic:x . Hope you forgive me for that Wiebke! but you are right that they must feel must cooler and more lively with shorter hair do.

Oh my gosh! He is sooooo CUTE! Another dream piggy :)) as others have said i'd keep the hair around his bottom very short and around his willy if you can, that's where Finley tends to have the most bother as the hair ends up going into his bits! :... I can get away with it being quite long on the sides but for the summer I just trim it short everywhere! He really is beautiful! x)

Gosh he's handsome isn't he? I love his colouring, we just used to trim round 'Pitch's' bum fur and sides.

I literally hack off as much as I can from the pigs at the rescue as unfortunately there isn't time to groom them as much as we'd like :(

poor things i bet they're traumatised once I've finished. You guys are obviously much better hairdressers than me :(|)

Not so sure about the hairdresser thing - will post a picture next week when Leonard has had the salon treatment and you can see how successful or not it has been!;)

OMG drool drool he's gorgeous .... I remember the skip piggies (if he's from that group that were mentioned on here a while back). I trim my long haired piggy (Candy)s hair at the back end .... otherwise she pees on it and it gets in a stuck damp mess (not good)....

Leonards hair is really beautiful x) x) x)

Oh my! Look at him x) He's gorgeous.

My long haired Pickles gets a bum trim in the winter, and then come summer, I cut it all short so she doesn't get too hot!

i got all confuzzled.......... then saw the before pics and went......

OMG that's THE LEONARD? ?/ WOW hasn't his quiff grown heaps and he looks so healthy and handsome x)xoxox)xoxo

Hair do update

The hair cutting event happened today! Salt N Peppers Mum was on hand to hold Leonard and he was just amazingly good and brave. Even when I chopped around the man bits area:x

Here is the Spring look Leonard. There may be another salon session to get to summer style.

What do you think of the cut so far? It may not look that radical yet but there was a pile of cut hair the size of a small guinea pig (paula may have a pic)

PS thanks so much to Paula (Salt N Peppers Mum) for helping me out with the pigglies AGAIN.

He's beautiful, I love his new do. I actually think I may hack off Milo's hair in the hope it'll grow back half decent! :))

Leonard looks a lot more comfy now! I would cut the hair that falls over his eye much shorter, but that is a personal preference.

My ninja piggy Ffwlbri has just had another (much needed) haircut, too. It is not easy to cut bum hair when said piggy is playing karate with you! mallethead

Awww! He is so handsome, looking good! Sounds like you had some good team work going on!

These are my photos :)

I didnt do anything but cuddle and turn Leonard's squishy body around.
He is such a quiet gentle boy x)

Great to see Mr Barney Bubbles too
