Sunny is officially a cuy
She is six months and she's already a kg
She is getting physically too big for me to handle her
Plus I'm worried about the safety of my other guinea pigs

I'm absolutely heartbroken because I don't think I have any other choice but to rehome her
Gutted

:hug:I am sorry you are feeling sad.
Are you sure about her age, I have a boar I think is older than I was lead to believe. Maybe she won't grow much more. My Willow is well over a killo at 9 months and is already the weight of one of my 3 year olds, I'm not expecting him to grow much more.
I don't know much about Cuys so I can't comment on what to look for, I didn't think we had them here, I thought they were a problem in America.

They do get into the pet supply chain in this country but it's rare
I've had one before and at six months how old he was 2 1/2 kg when my friend gave him to the rescue centre at-year-old he was 2 1/2 kg

It means means guinea pigs. Dont want go mention what popped up when I typed it in to google. OMG did you know people in peru eat guinea pigs

IMG_0536.webp IMG_0678.webp Hiya Maddie, we have a guinea pig that was around 1kg at 6 months old. She didn't grow too much more though, she's now 2 years old and weighs approx 1.3kg.

I wouldn't worry too much yet, she may not grow much more.

I've attached some pictures to try to show how she's bigger than the others, but not by much.

I am blind sweetie
Sorry Maddy I was unaware, she's a teddy piggy which tend to be slightly bigger than smooth haired piggies, she looks slightly bigger but is much chunkier. I would wait out and see how she develops, she may also calm as she gets older, all of mine have calmed as they have aged.

Sorry to sound dumb but what is a cuy?
Cuys are bred for meat in South America and are a lot bigger than domestic guinea pigs. They are extremely skittish and I've heard it's practically impossible to tame them. Its rare but they are making their way into pet stores, only in the US though I think x

Yes it's sickening.A guy in pets at home once said he'd eaten guinea pig and it was delicious and this was when I was in the process of adopting my 2 from the adoption section there so I thought he was very insensitive.I nearly said something rude to him x

At 6 months old Oreo was actually just over 1kg!

To this day she is still our biggest piggy, and although she gained weight very quickly in the first 6 months, she did settle out and now weighs a very stable 1.25 kgs.
She was also always our most difficult piggy to handle, and seemed a lot more wriggly than the other three.
But she is definitely not a Cuy.
What makes you think Sunny is a Cuy (other than her weight)?

@Maddy my Grace was always a chunkster she was 1.4kg in her prime, she's about 1.1 just over now, she's 5yrs old &has gradually lost weight. She's also now one of my most cuddly pigs, but probably one of the most skittish when I got her at approximately 6months. Partly why I called her Grace. As in G for guinea and race for speed! Add them together &voila!

@Demi that's a lovely pic. Maddy we can see the most gorgeous, rounded, fuzzy haired, golden orange/brown, big piggy butt that you could possibly imagine. One of those you just want to bury your head in her hair &blow raspberry kisses into! Oh &before I get carried away she has a pretty little white blaze on her nose, with those cute little floppy hankerchief ears. We're viewing it from above &she looks like a dangling fresh fig shape or very bulbous teardrop shape.
She's in with demi's other pigs in another picture which do look a bit smaller in comparison.

Do you know what colour sunny is? As I think cuys are usually orangey/beige &some white on them .although I may be wrong.
Xx

Haha thank you, I think she is beautiful and tbh we often refer to her as Bella big butt :p she's a very gentle pig and loves cuddles :)

Maddy, Bella was not the boss when we had the piggies as a quad. She wanted to be and challenged the boss, however, now she is an adult she has calmed down and is a very gentle piggy. I would give sunny a chance, their personalities change and they mellow as they age :)

Also Maddy they all look beautiful I can't work out which one is sunny but they all look to have quite a lot of markings on them, I've only seen cuys which are all one colour :)

Here is another photograph see if this one is any better she is the brown orange and white one

Honestly I don't see much of a size difference between her and Choc. Maybe she's not going to grow much more now or perhaps she was older than the age she was sold as?

I got her and Trixie who is the brown black and white one at the same time
