My sweet babe is not doing well and is back at the vets. I suspect the Zithromax knocked her systems right out of whack and she's not coping well, but will know more later.
I don't wish to put anyone off the Zithro, most pigs don't react to it.
As I say I don't know much and will know more later, but she's not well. Please keep my sweetheart in your thoughts. Thank you xx

She's very weak, not passing poos and is grunty. It could go one way or the other with her and the vet took her straight in. They have my number...
It's not sounding good to me, but sometimes they surprise you! Come on sweety xx

Yes one of mine didn't tolerate it very well, it is possible, fingers crossed she picks up x
Do you mind me asking, regarding your piggy who didn't tolerate the Zithro well: what were her symptoms please?

Keeping everything crossed. I have had a few on Zithromax and only had one react to it. He had other health issues though so we suspect they had something to do with it.

Thank you. With Sunrise she had an issue where eating fresh grass made her intestines bleed, and there was one dry mix that gave her mildly soft poos, but nothing drastic. She's never actually had anything that's made her feel rough or given her gut stasis, or made her gassy. Apart from one case of mites after a round of upheavals (stress) a good while back she's never actually been ill. She's not been ill in herself, if that makes sense?
I think I'm just trying to make sense of it. x

I don't think any of us expected this. The vet remarked on how well she was when she first went in. Even though I made sure everyone knew about the grass issues there was nothing to raise any alarms that she may be 'delicate' in any way, or likely to suffer from anything whilst under treatment.

Sending my best wishes and lots of healing vibes. Take care and keep going little Sunrise x

Sad sad sad.
Kim and Simon have had a busy morning trying to help Sunrise. She's passing lots of blood from her intestines. They believe that something, perhaps the antibiotics, perhaps not, sent her gut bacteria way off kilter, causing the harmful bacteria to go out of control and cause blood poisoning. She's receiving toxin binders, pain killers and I can't remember what, but it's (toxins) affecting her brain now. She doesn't have zero chance, but it's really very doubtful that she will pull through this, and if she does, there's the question of lasting neurological damage as these toxins are already affecting her brain. She is in pain, and despite the painkillers there is still some pain. When she's lucid, she's scared and stressed.
If she is to recover there should be signs in the next two hours, but by that point if she if still as she is they will help her to the Bridge.
In tears. I held it together on the phone, but not now.
Kim and Simon have never seen a reaction like this to Zithromax (and they've used it countless times), but then it really isn't normal for a guinea pig to have colitis when eating grass (as she does). Coincidence or Zithromax we don't know. Even with the colitis she has never actially been ill before, not in herself. Even with her colitis though this reaction could not have been predicted.
Only last Thursday when Kim first examined her she was very pleased with Sunrise's health and condition. I think we all thought this would be an easy ride for her....

Thank you for everyone for your best wishes. Thank you too Debbie, you've been an absolute trouper with trying to get her through this, and I know you must be upset too.

I'm sorry Sunrise. No-one could have known this was going to happen to you sweetheart. I love you x

Oh my goodness I shed a tear over this. So very sad and I just hope that a miracle does happen, you all deserve that. Sunrise is having the best care possible and she knows she is loved, thats all anyone could ask. Take care and hugs to you all, my guineas send separate hugs to Sunrise, we are all routing for her xx

Ah dear :( poor princess, hugs and best wishes to you and Sunrise. Come on little one, pull through for your mummy xx

Thank you for your really lovely messages.
I've just come off the phone from talking to Simon. She has not improved, and in fact is looking 'flatter' than ever, despite all the medication pumped into her to help.
We felt that being as her chances are so very slim, it really is not fair to prolong her suffering any longer. In both Simon and Kim's opinion it really is highly unlikely that we'll see an improvement now.
Sunrise is being helped to the Bridge. Go with my love sweet one xx

I'm ever so sorry. At least you are putting Sunrise out of more pain. You cared for Sunrise very well and did your best xx

Oh no I am so so sorry :( What an awful thing to happen, especially when it was all going so well for you :( Sending you massive hugs, hope you are ok. Pm me if you need a chat xx

Sweet dreams little one, sleep well x x

Absolutely heartbreaking! I really thought I would be taking her home very soon. It is so scary how things can suddenly deteriorate.

Sleep well gorgeous girl!
You were only with me a short time, but my lounge seems so empty without you.

Love and hugs for you, Vanessa x
