I currently have 5 piggies but will soon be getting two more, I normally get the veg frim the super market but its costing a small fortune! I feed them veg once in the morning and once in the evening with fresh hay in between and nuggets just before I go to bed. Where can I go to get my veg cheaper and am I over feeding them?

Veg is my biggest outlay.I use aldi and Tesco's for veg.Sometimes you can get it cheaper if it is reaching it's sell by date.

Are you near a Morrisons? I find the veg is always good value. A kilo of carrots is 44p and a head of broccoli is 38p (only know the prices cos I went and got some this morning!).

I like Aldi but it's relatively far away from where I live. Quite near my work, so i sometimes pop in at lunch. What i've been doing lately is going to Morrisons which is up the road at about 7-8 at night when they start reducing the veg thats near its sell by date lol. Always on the lookout for a bargain!

Supermarkets around 5pm when they reduce stuff, aldi and lidl especially that weeks deals and for me the local market. I can get a bowl with 3 cucumbers in for £1 etc

If you can figure out when 'vulture time' - i.e. when they mark down all the old stock - is at your supermarket then you can grab some really good bargains. Also quite a lot of supermarkets have started having super-cheap 'fruit and veg of the week' in an attempt to promote healthier eating - for example, CoOp usually has a selection for around 69p and Lidl for around 49p.

We've also had a lot of luck with the local covered market (Cardiff is blessed with a pretty big one) as the greengrocers there will often have a selection of '50p grab bags' of whatever they've bought too much of which also helps keep the piggies' diet fairly varied, as they'll get whatever is 'on special offer' that day - we've lucked out and had massive bunches of coriander, bags of pea pods, and vast quantities of peppers.
