Survivors Group Therapy

I think they know when we are trying to help them. He must find being fed comforting. The live feed on The Los Angeles Guinea Pig You Tube channel yesterday showed a piggy with awful front teeth who had not eaten for a week. Amazingly he was still able to start to recover after Saskia trimmed his teeth and he started eating cucumber pieces. He had to learn how to use his teeth over again, but his face was a picture. He looked so full of love for the people who were helping him. He was a very brave piggy, like Djingis ❤

I'm on an Amazon tablet, so my emoticons are a bit strange at the moment 🤔

Djingis mostly thinks I torture him when I pick him up to feed him 😅 thank god it works okay to feed him with a 1ml syringe standing in his cage. Kongo is the lure. Today they got some cc with papaya taste, and Djingis was suddenly very hungry!

Saskia does such an amazing job for these animals. Its magic to see how she can deal with the most terrified pig and really nature it back to health!

Kongo was supposed to have floortime during cage cleaning but didn't come out. Bug was so excited to see the magic carpet though, and is running around like a mad pup. Here he tries to deal with Buddha about who's the boss. Buddha won again!
Such a cute pigture 🥰

Djingis - Buddha 1-1. Son of a b. He managed to crawl over. Now I dont know what to use to block that corner, I'm too short to clean properly in there!

Kongo woke me up this morning. He wanted something under a bowl and slammed that bowl into the grids. Bang, bang, bang.

Guinea pigs are easy starter pets 😄🥰
That's what PAH used to claim. Now they say "Guinea pigs can be good family pets. They are amusing and entertaining to watch, showing you how excited and happy they are with squeaks and squeals. While they don’t usually enjoy being picked up, they are happy to be petted and stroked. They are relatively straightforward to look after, kept in single-sex pairs or groups and can be kept indoors."

Stripe is so happy with a clean cage he doesn't even ask to come out of the cage for a couple hours.

The boys are so happy with a fresh hay pile and fleece they don't even bite the bars.

Ahhh. Peace.

Straight forward but need an exotic vet with guinea pig experience, dozens of medications many not used for common pet species, syringes, a change of vegetable menu every few days, hand picked, safe grass, bottom cleans, weener cleans, to be able to eat every minute of the day (some chew even when they are asleep) etc etc...😄 and yes, guinea pigs really do have slaves who clean twice a day ❤

Straightforward to look after? The person who wrote this does not know what a Guinea pig is. I think it would be easier to take care of a squirrel on speed than a Guinea pig. Complex creatures.

Great to see the toofies at work ❤
Yeah, he still struggles a bit. I hope he turns around all the way these coming days, otherwise we have to visit the dentist again. Thing is I cant imagine theres something actually wrong in there now? Vet visits are so stressful for them, so I dont want to run away to soon either and get the answer I suspect (he's adjusting to the feeling in his mouth). But I also know it can be worth trying another painkiller.

When I got up from bed this morning Kongo was with his back legs in the air in some weird way. He managed to steal two small towels this night and had made himself a bed for kings. One blanket was halfway over him. He woke up in two second when I came with the critical care-bowl and came running. Sometimes a want to be Kongo - just happy go lucky all the time!

They are delightful pets with a funny, dry way about them, but they are very hard work. Rewarding, but they need lots of cleaning and the learning curve is steep. Keeping them in good condition is hard work and can be expensive ❤

Not to mention time consuming. I spend at least 20 mins per day combing the knots out of my two. Bramble is the worst. As they get groomed every morning until they are knot free where do all the knots come from?
The piggy fairy ties them in the fur of sleeping piggies if they have been naughty ❤

And lets not talk about vetbills. I pay ~500€/year for the highest insurance, which does not cover teeths. Joes bladderstone removal was 1600€, I paid 30% of that. Thats only the price for the removal and meds on the clinic, the other visits does not count in to that.
Toothies are a bit cheaper, 350€ for the trim. Its like "yay, I won the toothie-lottery again!" everytime for me 😅

Second playpen time. I swear he asks to go back in the cage, then he's mad I put him back in there.

A fresh hay pile for distraction.

The insurance here (there are only two) stop insuring rodents after they are five years old. You have to know when your piggy was born. Dental issues are not covered either 🙁

Kongo says thats just unfair. He doesn't have a birthday (everyday is Kongoday), and maybe he's five next year. He dont know. The insurance says so, he has all his papers at home. Might took a wee on them. Sorry...

Chez wants to form a piggy train but there may be squabbles about who's in charge. Would they fight if they were in the playpen together?
Polo: Truffle is a naughty little %&@#
MS: Really Polo, language 😒

I don't know if they would fight. My guess is yes.

Maleslave and Miniwiener is taking care of us today while slave is at work. We got a buffet for lunch. A very big. Kongo will be so mad at slave when he doesn't get his veggie dinner and sell her on ebay or something.
Has Kongo put Slave on ebay yet? "Rehoming because her approach to quantity is incompatible with my dietary needs. She is an otherwise excellent and very experienced slave..."
