Junior Guinea Pig
It's me again.. the adventures never stop
Around 5pm today, Nelli started shrieking and straining whilst trying to pee. When we picked her up, we saw that she was trying to wee, but not much was coming out - then she was weeing little and often, with some clear discomfort. I had a feeling there was something wrong with her urinary tract, so I had a feel just above her genitals and felt a hard, rugged lump under the surface of the skin. I had a feel of Lulu for comparison, and she didn't have it.
We immediately took her to the vets for an emergency appointment, fearing that she may be trying to pass a stone that has gotten a bit stuck in the lower part of her urethra. Upon examination, the vet is suspecting a bladder stone. She is currently there having x-rays to clarify if it is a stone, however no exotic specialists are available until Wednesday. Our options essentially are to take her home with some Metacam (and maybe something stronger) until we have our appointment on Wednesday, or keeping her in the hospital on strong opiate medications until an exotics vet is available to see her.
Both myself and my boyfriend have agreed that we will try to find another emergency hospital in our area, and hopefully they will have an exotics specialist who will be able to sort her out sooner. I know some vets are able to manually manipulate the stone out, however as none of the exotics vets are working at our practice, the emergency vet doesn't feel comfortable doing this procedure.
Is there anything else we could do at home for her?
