My four guinea pigs (2 in particular) are itching and scratching like CRAZY! Their skin looks fine (apart from a tuff of hair coming of one of them but don't know if just a coincidence) and I can't see anything when I've combed them through, so guessing it's mites seeing as they've been on antibiotics for URIs last week. It also seems one is less energetic but I do t know if I'm just being paranoid! I'm going away over the weekend so can't get to a vet until Tuesday but is there any thing my dad can get (but couldn't be a pet shop as have none near) before then? Or anything to soothe them? :)

Can your dad or somebody else take your guinea pigs to be seen at a vets?

The problem is that mange mites and fungal can look pretty similar in the very early stages, but they need different treatment.
If you treat with a too low dosed shop product for an acute outbreak now, it means that they have to wait longer until they can start on high dosed ivermectin product that will cure them because of the interval of 1-2 weeks between rounds that is required between rounds of mites treatment (you need at least 3 rounds for a full course). The quicker they can get a diagnosis and start on a good quality ivermectin product, the better, to be honest. :(

Okay thank you, I will have to fit in an appointment after work tomorrow for them. Thanks again.

All the best! It is going to be hectic, but you can go away knowing that your piggies are taken care of properly and that treatment is underway to bring them the relief they need. ;)
