Hi all.

I came home after work tonight and poor Angus was making a squeaking noise as if he was in pain. Not constantly, just every so often. I think he may have a UTI but i wanted to see what you all thought. He seems to be doing it when he pee's or poo's - he is still doing both, but for a while he had very small poo's for a while, but has done some regular Angus sized logs in the last 10ish mins :lol!: he is also a bit stinky down there (I noticed when holding him up for syringe feeding).

He is still eating - although not hay or nuggets really, just vegetables. I have syringed him some critical care and some water to make sure he is getting enough of both. He also seems himself. I have moved him into my bedroom into a temporary pen so I can keep an eye on him overnight. His brother, William, is still his cage (they live apart as they had a fight) - should I bring him in for company too? They like to chat through the dividing bars.

Is there anything else I should be doing for him? I have a vets appointment at 2.50pm tomorrow so I want to make sure he is comfortable until then. I finish work at 12.30, so he will be alone for about 5 hours in the morning.

Please continue to feed fibre and to offer as much as water as he is willing to take.

If his poos are soft and stinky, then it can be that he has overeaten on fresh food (including fresh grass). In this case, taking him off fresh veg for a day or two can readdress this aspect.

Always keep bonded piggies together as much as possible; but I would not bring them to the vets if they are not living together and can snuggle up during transport. All the best for your vet trip!
Tips For Vet Visits

Thanks Wiebke! He started eating a little hay but he’s not really interested in food at all. I have fed him a total of 3ml of critical care (3 x 1 ml syringe), he isn’t going to tolerate any more syringe feeding at the moment I don’t think. The squeaking is quite frequent now. He is obviously in pain and can’t seem to get comfy and I just spotted some bloody looking pee on the fleece. The poops are quite few (he is usually a poop machine) but there are some at least, even if they are quite small. There are no signs of bloat, planning on doing syringe feeds during the night and the morning before work to keep his gut going. Might try some mushed pellets as he doesn’t seem to be a fan of critical care lol. Hopefully it is a UTI and nothing worse.

Poor boy, my Sam made that noise before when he had a uti, it was horrible, I felt so bad for him.Hope you get some answers soon x

Thanks, me too! The syringe feeding is horrible, he doesn't like it but he isn't really eating on his own now, just bits here and there. He pooed 4 times in the 10mins I was syringe feeding a min ago though. Small but formed like normal poo. He's probably tired to be honest, he hasn't been sleeping with pain and with me bugging him, hopefully he will eat after a nap which is what he is doing now.

I have some Metacam from when William was 'sick' (there was nothing wrong with him in the end lol, drama king). Don't know if it would be worth giving him a small amount or not. I'm not really clued up on that kind of thing.

Yes definitely give him some metacam as long as it’s not really old.I don’t know how much your boar weighs but If he’s over 1kg then you can safely give 0.25ml twice a day until you can see the vet x

Thanks, its still in date so i gave him a little bit. Hopefully it helps until we see the vet tomorrow.

Just a wee update: I did syringe feeding every two hours last night as Angus wasn’t eating. Left some veggies in the cage this morning before work and when I got home (took a half day) he had eaten all of them and also did a lovely pile of poops, bit soft and pale but fully formed and nearly the same size as his regular ones. I forced him out of his tunnel (think he had been there all day as it was wet with pee) and he started eating hay! Took him to the vet and he does have a UTI (there was some blood in his pee in the carrier) - poor soul got an injection of antibiotics and painkillers and I got a prescription to take home to give him during the week. Have to go back next week. Vet couldn’t feel any stones but says that if the issue persists we can get him x-rayed to make sure. Hopefully the antibiotics will help. He’s no longer squealing when he pees or poops which is a good sign! Going to keep an eye on how much he’s eating and top up with syringe feeding if needed :)

Please keep us updated, hope the AB's do the trick for him

Thanks guys :D when I came home from work tonight there was alot of poop and it was all regular size and colour. I could have cried with happiness haha. Also still no squealing when peeing and pooping and eating enough on his own so no more syringe feeding thank goodness. I got some fibreplex and oxbow vitamin c tabs in the post today incase he needs it and it will be handy to have if he doesn’t. He’s also been taking his antibiotics and painkillers like a champ. He’s such a sweet boy.

Hi all. I’m a bit confused. Angus had stopped making the screeching sound (he hasn’t made it aince Wednesday), but I have now heard it 3 times in the last hour  the weird thing is he is eating, pooping and peeing normally and there doesn’t seem to be any blood in his pee. He is still on antibiotics and painkillers, I just wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to what else I can do or if they have had any experience of this happening? He is due back at the vet on Friday for a check up but will take him sooner if he seems worse.

I am a bit irritated as there is also something wrong with my car (will probs be hundreds of pounds to fix), my MOT is due soon and I have a £300 factor fee bill that just came in :( everything always comes at once and I have very little savings due to an unexpected bill for external redecoration of my flats. I can’t stop crying.
