The bigger baby that i have has a small patch which is white, like flaky dry skin and no fur by right shoulder? I only noticed as i got him out to check him as not eaten since i've had him home. He seems friendly and cuddly? What do you think? Booked in vet for wednesday?

Oh poor baby. Sounds like a fungal infection to me. I do not know what you can do apart from try to get an earlier appointment.

Right i shall call them monday? Is it life threatening? Sounds bad saying that but wondering do i need to get emergency appointment now? Also can we catch it?

Fungal can get bad if you leave it, so a vet trip is definitely recommended, but not I would think urgent, unless fitting is occurring. It's obviously uncomfortable for the piggie as there is a lot of itching going on.

A lot of information on fungal, and some preventative information, can be found at www.Gorgeousguineas.co.uk and you can email Chrissie for advice using the link provided. Check out the links on success stories and about us for info.

I use her shampoos regularly on my piggies, and on one who is particularly prone, if there is a scratchy thing going on, also use her melts.

Thanks is it worth me cleaning it with cooled boiled water and cotton bud? Doesn't seem to be bothering him, and the other one is absolutely fine? He's just started to eat but i've not seen him drink yet, although he is liking cucumber. I'm going to keep an eye on it and check each day, make sure he's ok and any change i'll bring vets appointment forward. If anyone thinks i'm doing wrong please say. Also i'll sort some shampoo tuesday when can get back on line on pc. I can email a pic if needed x

He's to young to bath, he's only 2-3 weeks. Just take him to the vets earlier if you can the sooner they are checked over the better :)!

he's 4 weeks?

4 weeks is still too young for a bath. And quite honestly too young to be rehomed really.

If you got him from a rescue I would contact them immediately as if they have one with fungal, they could all get it very easily.

To be truthful a decent rescue would not let a baby pig go out with fungal

the white patch is like thick dandruff

OR

Take many photos, proof where you got them from, and give the RSPCA a wee phone call...

it's all in hand ;) what about my poorly boy lol could i be just real dry skin? He's started scratchin so i'm callin vets monday. Anythin i can put on now that i may have?

I would not recommend putting anything on such young and tiny babies - anything with essential oils in it should be avoided. The only thing that can help and will not affect them is pure aloe vera gel.

Let us know what the vet prescribes when you've been.

If it's ringworm, be very careful with hygiene as other pets and humans can catch it :( Are there tufts of fur coming off with little bits of skin attached? Is it in a circle the bald patch?

I would be inclined not to put anything on it, handle as little as possible & get him to the vet on Monday. It's not a dire emergency, but take both pigs as they both will need treatment probably.

I don't know what anyone else thinks about aqueous cream? Cheap as chips from most chemists (esp if own brand) and recommended for human babies as being very gentle. I agree, I wouldn't put anything shampoo like on them as they are so young.

The ointments/cream Katie is referring to are not suitable for suspected fungal skin problems as they can aggravate the burning itch of fungal infection - aloe is the only thing I've found that is safe to use and cools the skin.
