Sven passed away in my arms today. This morning he was fine and eating and even gained a little weight but he went downhill very fast and I tried syringe feeding and he couldn’t even swallow and was very limp. I knew it was time, so my husband and I took turns holding him until he took his last breath. It only took about 30 minutes. We buried him in his favorite soft hidey under a little tree in our back yard and I sprinkled some hay one it and marked it with a rock. Sven, even though you were only with us for a short time, you stole all of our hearts and will forever be loved.

Oh Heather my heart sank when I read this! I'm so very sorry for your loss! I have been following all your threads about Sven. It's nothing that you did. Please don't blame yourself! You did everything you could. Sometimes the call from The Rainbow Bridge is too strong and they just have to.go. Sven is now playing Zoomies and popcorning with all his new friends and he has his favourite food.

Thank you, I just feel like maybe he had some underlying issue or something that no one knew about, or are skinny pigs just more susceptible to illness and infections? I took him outside this afternoon and let him see Elsa just to see if he would perk up. When he didn’t rumble-strut or anything I knew something was going on. Elsa just kept nuzzling him and licking his ears.4FD3A6EA-6870-453C-98C3-F7F184C2DF88.webp

I am very sorry for your loss! This prolonged hot weather spell is aggravating and speeding up any other health issues.
Acute heart and organ failure when there are already underlying issues with them can be brought on by it.
A piggy with weight problems has usually got a problem somewhere. :(

At least they got to say goodbye.

No, not Sven :( what heartbreaking news. You did absolutely everything to give him the best possible life, I’m so sorry for your loss xx

Oh no that's heartbreaking, so sorry for your loss! You took such good care of him and did everything you could to help him... poor little Sven, he must have been ill in a way nobody could fix because you and the vet tried so hard for him...

This post totally broke my heart. Poor Sven and poor you Heather. You did everything you could to make Sven better and now he will be an angel looking down on you all. Massive hugs to you and your family at this hard time. x

Oh gosh, my heart has lurched seeing the title of your thread :(
I am so very sorry for your loss of dear Sven :( I too have been following all your threads and was routing for him to recover.

Sleep tight Sven x

I am so very sorry for your loss. I am pleased that he and Elsa spent some time together as that will have been a great comfort to him and to you. Huge hugs.

Thank you for all of your kind words. My daughters are 3 and 5 and don’t really understand death. They were at my parents when it happened. My granny died in February and we had to try to explain death to them, so I told them Sven is up in heaven sitting on granny’s lap getting his little nose stroked. Granny was a huge animal lover so this is probably true!

Oh Heather I am so very sorry to read this after all you’ve done for Sven and all you’ve been through with him.
He died knowing he was much loved and cherished.
Now you need to look after yourself and allow yourself time to grieve.
Children grieve differently to adults. There are 2 lovely stories to help children understand death.
I don’t know if they’re available in the USA but the titles are:
Waterbugs and Dragonflies
Badgers Parting Gifts

Both can easily be adapted to help with the loss of a pet.

Love to you all.

I'm so sorry to read this Heather :( You did everything you could for him and gave him a chance at a new and lovely life. He knew nothing but love in his final weeks and even had his own wife-pig. Sending you huge hugs, I know there is nothing that will take this pain away. We are all here for you :hug:
