I can't believe I am writing in here again so soon. Little Red (Ida) was found in a collapsed state this morning and passed before we could get her to the vet. It was quick, but so unexpected. She had recently battled off a bad respiratory infection and was improving daily, but obviously something has gone wrong. She is the 6th piggy death I've had this year, I can't take anymore :(

:(

Sleep tight gorgeous little ginger girl. Your personality shone through even though you were only small you certainly got your own way and would tell everyone off if you wanted to. You had a slight addiction to strawberries and regularly stole them from the others. I'm glad I had the opportunity to meet you and have you for a little while, a beautiful little bundle of diva and cuteness all wrapped into one. You will be missed here at The Harris Cavies.

BIG HUGS
I am so sorry for your unexpected loss. I have lost several of my older/frail during or in the wake of a major heat wave myself over the years because of the extra stress on the body, especially the heart/blood circulation. :(

My Mali went the same way when her heart suddenly gave out; despite being 8 years old and blind, she'd been playing zoomies only two days before. The one consolation I have is that she didn't suffer much and for long. It is one of the gentler ways to go, even if it is harder on us because of its suddenness. But I'd rather carry that burden than having my piggies doing it if I had the choice.

To be honest, I have been very apprehensive this last week over my own, considering that I still have another 9 piggies of five years and older, even after my own multiple losses since last August bank holiday.

It is hard to cope when you suffer from grieving indigestion as you can process only so much at any given time.

RIP Little Red - popcorn with your mates at the Rainbow Bridge!

Thank you Wiebke your words really do mean a lot. I am so glad I have this place to talk about things, because people understand. I'm sorry you are still having a bad time with your tribe xx

Oh Ruth. I am devastated for you. I know it's easy for me to say this but please do not blame yourself in any way. You are a loving, caring and knowledgeable owner. I remember that Little Red had not long since been given the all clear from the vet. If she was showing signs of illness then then I'm sure you would have spotted it. There may well have been an underlying problem that hadn't surfaced yet, and the heat of last week took its toll on many piggies.
I know your heart is breaking but just take comfort from the fact she passed so quickly, at home with her friends and her loving slaves. The end was quick and free of suffering. That is hard for us to come to terms with but so much kinder for her. HUGE HUGS x
Popcorn free Little Red you little beauty x

Thank you Vicki, I am trying my best to not blame myself, but like you said it is hard xx

I am really sorry mate. Sudden passings are very hard to take and to get your head round as you can't work out what as happened. Try and remember that for the short time Red was with you she had the best life ever and was so very happy. I am sorry you are having a bad year with losses, it really takes its toll but remember that the love you gave and got given in return is always worth it. Red's life was better for having you in it and vice versa. I am so very sorry Ruth. Huge huge hugs

Sleep well little one

RIP Red

Good morning! I have woken to two dead piggies this morning! :-( mother and daughter. They were fine yesterday and eating good! (Kale, celery, cucumber, nuggets etc) had plenty of water. But for them both you suddenly die! My side gate was open this morn do you think it could have been a fright? One is upstairs and one is down!

Oh my. What a shock and i personally can't answer how they died. oh so sad we send you our love and so sorry. Bless Them. Bye piggies xx

We originally had 3 then one had babies so we ended up with 4 ( one was a male so my friend had him) we lost 2 last year then now mother and daughter in the same night! I will miss the squeaking every morning waiting for me to feed them x

So sorry to read this, what a beautiful pig she was with her bold red eyes! She looks identical to one of my rainbow bridge piggies, Fizz.
