I know piggies cant have ordinary potato's, but i wondered about sweet potato? Its more like swede or carrot really.

Thanks

Mine love it! It must be the piggie version of marmite! They also love celeriac, beetroot, cherry tomatoes and fennel x

Do you just give it to them raw? I have a few in the cuboard I might try them on one tonight :)

Yes, peel it. Put it in and watch them ignore it lol that's what ours do.... :))

They have exotic tastes, it's always good when you have none fussy piggies, makes teas a lot easier.

@ toffeewoffee -Have you tried it?

Always raw piggies cant have anything cooked.

S_B, no i was going to, but realised they were a bit passed it, so i chucked them.

In all fairness they are a breeze when it comes to veg. Tammy and shy were really fussy when I took them in, they'd only eat apple, carrot, cucumber and dandelion(but even that took some convincing! ), they had serious issues if I put banana skin in their cage... Now the only thing i can't get them to eat is pepper, which is fine as it leaves more for the others ;)

I stocked up on sweet potato yesterday as Aldi are selling packs for 69p this week

The skin is first to get munched by my lot, try leaving it on, most of the vitamins lie in the skin x

Yummy sweet potato!

Aw too cute thats one adorable piggy x)) Do you leave the skin on? I used to give it my degus and was told the skin was toxic so always peeled them never tried it with the herd though :)

Bella and mouse have eaten into it like a melon and left the skin, just looked and so have Tammy and Shy, Robin and Pablo quite happily ate some of theirs. Have left the skin in before and seems to have done no harm, whether the remainder has just got mixed up in the bedding or not I know. They do say guineas are pretty good at not eating what's bad for them xx

i've never thought of giving mine sweet potato. i have some here so looks like they will be trying it very shortly:)

I cant believe I have nt been on here for ages.. came on to ask the very same question! off to try our boys with this x

It's not an everyday veg but is fine to give 2-3 times a week, I normally give mine about a cube of melon sized piece each. Judging by the left skins it might be an idea to peel it beforehand :)

Might try it with mine then although they aren't keen on squash so might be the same with sweet potato :)) I read somewhere that the skin was toxic especially to degus and chinchillas so wondered if the same was said for guinea pigs as they are closely related :)

twiglet loves the inner part but leaves the skin
