Sweetie has a UTI

Minnie is now also squeaking when she wees.

I think it is unlikely that they both have kidney or bladder stones so I am going to give them antibiotics for a full 14 days and see if the UTI will go away. It seemed to clear up and the vet said that Sweetie was clear but it was obviously still lurking to make a comeback.

Oh poor Minnie. Sounds like it's a UTI being passed between them. Fingers crossed it will clear up if they're both on Septrin.

Just a quick update regarding Sweetie. She has been on baytril since early July and every time she comes off it her UTI comes straight back.

I have taken her to the vets this afternoon and she is not on paediatric septrin. I have looked her in for an x-ray and urine crystal check at the vets on Tuesday. If bladder stones are found they will operate straight away.

She is really perky and lively in herself and she is eating really well. SHe is much lighter than she was as she has lost about 50g every time the UTI has come back so I am giving her extra greens and pellet mash to try and get some weight on her. I am hopeful that we will get to the bottom of the problem. It feels as if I have been nursing guinea pigs for a very long time (including George who was taken poorly at the beginning of May)...

I'm sorry that Sweetie is still poorly. I hope the septrin helps, it must be very wearing for both of you. Hope the vet visit goes well next week. Will be thinking of you. xx

oh no my poor little sweetie give her a hug from me.I'm so sorry shes no better shes such a special girl i really hope everything goes ok on thursday and she doesnt have to have an operation

Thanks very much, everyone.

Sarah, the UTI has come back twice since I picked her up from you so either she has some residual infection or its stones. I'm not sure what I want it to be, but I just want her to get better.

Pollie if you need anything you know where i am, i`ll be keeping my fingers crossed for her on tuesday,i hope the cause if found and dealt with straight away.

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that. I am sending healing vibes over.

I'm sorry this is being such a stubborn issue, hugs for you and Sweetie. xx

Thanks everyone. Sweetie is still peeing blood but she seems better than she was yesterday. Fortunately she is very good at taking water from a syringe, so I am able to get quite a lot of fluids into her.

I'm just bumping this up as Sweetie is going for her x-rays tomorrow. I will phone to get a progress report at about 2pm and will try and post then.

Thanks, Sarah! I'm just about to give her her evening meds so I will give her a cuddle from you and your daughters.

Good luck, I am sending healing vibes over (Flintstones, I see you have Milo as avatar now! x))

Sweetie is back from the vets. The x-rays showed no stones so we are going to continue with septrin for 28 days and then try and get a urine sample 7 days after that. Sweetie is perky and happy in herself.

I am so pleased that no stones were found as I know they can be a nightmare.

Thanks for your vibes, everyone!

That's great news. I hope the long dose of septrin finally sees the infection off.

Well done Sweetie, I'm sure you were a good girl today. xx>>>

Actually, she weed when they gave her the anaesthetic gas which meant that the x-ray was more difficult to read, but apart from that she was very well behaved!
