Ok so this is a bit of a dumb question, but what all do I need to get for switching to fleece bedding? I have a 16 square foot cage and two piggies and bedding is getting a bit pricey.

You need either - premade fleece liners (they are a layer of fleece, an absorbent layer stitched in and then another layer of waterproof material on the back); or you can make them yourself if you can sew and have access to the materials; or you can buy puppy pads and put them down in the cage and then lay normal fleece blankets on top of them.

this guide explains in much more detail

A Detailed Guide For Fleece Bedding

I have a tarp on the carpet, puppy pad layer, standard blanket that all stays put then puppy pads and kids fleece blanket on top which gets changed and washed . I also put pieces of fleece in high use areas and refresh them daily when wet etc and find that easier to manage and keeps them clean and dry and me sane. Warning though your washer can become full if hair and hay washing the fleeces. I find the kids fleece blankets lovely and soft but thin enough to dry quickly too. Hope that helps x
Mine are in my lounge in run on floor btw , no drafts tho

I make my own fleece liners. I use a quilted mattress cover cut to size sandwiched in 2 layers of fleece (either cut up blankets or bought by the metre on ebay). I don't like the liners with a waterproof backing, too much wee stays in them and the top stays wet. I use a layer of newspaper or puppy pads under the liner which will absorb any extra fluid that leaks through. You can buy horse/pet wash bags on line to use in the machine, these keep all hair and hay out of the machine. A stiff brush for brushing the fleece down outside before putting it in the bag.
