One of my pigs has got a swollen lip I'm not sure what from ive had a look and there doesnt seem to be anything there do you think she needs to go the vet cause i dont want to pay £40+ to be told to give her metacam or something when ive already got that

Are her teeth okay? It might stop her eating and she may need baytril depending on what the issue is.

Tbh I'd take her to the vet :)

Yeah just been she has a infected bite wound on her lip she is on 0.3ml of loxycom and 0.5ml on metacam

In future, if you have any metacam/loxicom at home then take it to your vets appointment with you as you may not need to buy new medication and will then just have the cost of the consultation. Has the vet advised to give both loxicom and metacam as my understanding is that these are the same product?

Aren't they both pain relief? I would have thought they would use an antibiotic for infection? Baytril is the usual medication for infection.

She said use metacam to reduce the swelling if i want but i realized once i got home it was put of date so she is just on loxicom

I would contact your vet to say that you can't use the medicine prescribed as it was out of date. You will need antibiotics for the infection. Loxicom won't do anything for that.

Also, was the bite from a cagemate? If so you will need to keep a close eye on them if they are fighting. They may need to be separated if it continues.

My bad it was baytril and the vet said metacam doesnt need to be used but if i had it i could and yes there a newly bonded quad all seems to be ok with them now
