Little Spud got neutered on Friday 11th, and everything was fine. he has been recovering really well, you wouldn't believe he'd even had an op, all his swelling has gone down.
However, today, I noticed his right testicle (or where it was) is very swollen.
He's not been acting differently today - popcorning, chatting to the girls through the divider, and this doesn't seem to be botherin him- but I'm getting worried!
Has this happened to anybody before?
If it's not gone down by tomorrow then I will take him into the vets :(

Abscesses are not uncommon after neutering.

Please have him seen by a vet tomorrow; he will need to have the abscess drained and antibiotics! If you get prescribed baytril, please ask for a probiotic to help keep the guts moving and the appetite going!

I agree that it's worth having him checked out, a small infection (abscess) may be the cause of the swelling. Fingers crossed it's not though! If the vet suspects an abscess after examining him, he should be able to pop a needle into the swelling to check the contents of the lump before lancing it.

Dexter had a very minor abscess after his neuter three years ago, luckily it was very small and cleared up no bother.

Vet thinks it's a hernia :( she gave him an anti inflammatory injection just in case, but he's booked in to theatre tomorrow morning so they can get a proper look :( really didn't want him to have to go through anaesthetic again, poor guy. But hopefully this will sort it.

Oh dear, that's a worry. Sending good luck and healing vibes for Spud. Big hugs to you too. x

Just dropped him off. Vets and nurses there are all lovely though, they remembered him from his op and were excited to see him. Apparently he'll get lots of cuddles! They're such lovely people there. Gotta call again at 2, I want time to hurry up!

Time is going so slowly! I'm going to have his fave veggies in his cage for when he gets home. Last time, the vets had gone and got some grass for him which was lovely, they're so caring and friendly :) When Nova's babies arrive, I'm going to take them there to check everything is ok - the nurses are so excited!
Thanks for the good luck vibes everybody :) Spud sends you all piggy kisses x

UPDATE: Just called the vets, and he is recovering from the anaesthetic well :) I can go and collect him at 4...not too much longer to wait! Off to clean his cage now and fill it with yummy veg :)

Great news! Fingers crossed he'll be right as rain in no time at all. He's a gorgeous looking piggy - that photo is fab....as your photos always are :)

Just got another call from the vets, this time from the nurse. They found a huge cyst apparently, which was dark and smelly, and generally not nice. He's being given antibiotics but they want to keep him in overnight as he's not looking too good now 8...
They're going to keep me updated if anything changes....but I'm supposed to be going out tonight for my Year 13 prom and now I really don't want to go, I am sooo worried about my little guy :(

Oh no....So sorry to hear that. It's completely understandable that you're so worried and it's an awful shock but I'm sure he's in great hands.

Fingers crossed for little Spud and big hugs for you x

Sorry to hear your sad news. Hope Spud is okay and you can collect him tomorrow.

x

Poor Spud, I'm sorry it wasn't better news. Will keep my fingers tightly crossed for him, let's hope he shall be back home where he belongs tomorrow. xx

Hope Spud is on the mend when you collect him tomorrow.

Spud passed away this morning. Vet said they tried feeding him all through the night and he just wouldn't take it. I'm absolutely heartbroken. There will never be another pig like him, ever. I'm going to collect him in a minute and bury him in his favourite place. I still think it's all just a horrible nightmare. I'm not sure I can bear to go downstairs and see his hutch and his pigloo, his favourite place. Thanks everybody for the support

So very sorry to hear that. What a devastating blow for you. He was obviously greatly loved and I'm sure he felt that during his special time with you. Big hugs x

Sleep tight little Spud x

Morning JayceeStar, I've read through the whole of this thread and am utterly very sad for you today. After seeing Spud's photos too has just made it even worse. What a beautiful little darling.

My 15 year old son is sat on the floor by my side and he said how sad this is.

Why these things happen is very frustrating, but they often do after surgery, as I'm sure others who know a little more of these kinds of things, will tell you.

Spud had every chance, but it just didn't work in his favour in the end. I really feel for you right now lovely and don't really know what to say to ease your pain. I went (and still feel sad) through this is April, but time will heal for you.

Take care lovely. xx

Oh god am so so sorry, what a shock. RIP little Spud sweet dreams xx
