My little girl Star has had a rough start. She is about 2 months old and is 312 grams. When we first got her she had a cold or URI she was put on SMZ-TMP. On 3/10/18 her one side of her face swelled up and her third eyelid was starting to show and it was all crusty and yucky. I got her into the vets the same day and she was put on SMZ-TMP and Baytril and Metacam. Within 48hrs the swelling went down. Now we have finished up the Baytril and Metacam she is still on the SMZ-TMP and this morning I noticed that her face is starting to swell again. I have already contacted the Vets office to let them know that we might need to get her in to be seen again. She is in a 6 foot by 2 1/2 foot cage with her two sisters. They have a fleece liner in their cage that gets changed every 3 days. No one else is displaying any signs of sickness.

Hi, I am sorry I don't know what SMZ-TMP is but it sounds like she may need a longer course of antibiotics and metacam, I would take her back to the vets. I hope she gets better soon

SMZ-TMP is sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim, which is the active ingredient in brands we commonly know as septrin/sulfatrim (UK) and bactrim (US). ;)

However I fully agree with your advice!

Smz tmp is what they put our Monica on when baytril wasn't working, so she was on both for her pneumonia, the combination of the two antibiotics cleared her up. Smz tmp is a much stronger antibiotic

Star's eye is still weeping and gets crusty junk around it. Our other little girl Lucky the tri colored one in my profile, her one eye just started to get crusty also. I have a vet apt tomorrow at 10:30 for both of them. I have cleaned the C&C cage every night with new fleece, wash out the water bottles and food bowls . What else can I do?

There is not much more you can do really until you see the vet. Make sure they are kept nice and warm and are eating and drinking normally.
