Firstly, I will be setting my alarm in the morning and praying I can get straight into the vets before it closes for Christmas.

Isobel has lost a bit of weight this week, I thought maybe Daisy has been in season again as she can be very bossy but today I thought no that looks like a fat face.

Izzy definitely has a lump to her right cheek and it actually feels solid like bone! I have given her a dose of metacam that I had left over from one of the others and she is presently tucking into the fresh veggies so doesn't seem to be affecting her appetite.

Any ideas on what kind of problem this could be?

Oh no, Kelly, what a mare. These things always happen at the worst possible time. Hope you can get into the vets. Wouldn't like to speculate - perhaps an abscess or tooth overgrowing?

It is very odd, been doing a bit of searching through old posts and with the speed at which the lump came up (bearing in mind I only did their health check on Monday) I'm thinking it's more likely to be an abscess. Just praying I can get into the vets quickly

If all else fails just stress that she's in distress - they have a duty to treat an animal in distress which means they always have to squeeze you in. Good luck x

I had to make an emergency appointment last Christmas eve for something that I thought was minor and turned out to be, but I didn't want to risk it. I was surprised to find they had lots of available appointments. I hope you have as much luck tomorrow x

Poor girl, really hope they can fit you in. It does sound like an abscess maybe, so hopefully they will give you Zithromax until after Christmas.

Anselmo had something very similar happen to him a month or so ago, same cheek too!. I couldn't get him to the vet for almost a week. Thankfully it didn't bother him or affect his eating.

The vet removed it for him, with it being near his eye and mouth we didn't want to let it grow and become a problem.

Good luck, let us know how it goes and if you need anything don't hesitate to yell.

Oh God that is disgusting! She put a needle in it and usually the pus was really watery so she drew it out (over 3 syringes full of the worst smelling foulest fluid I have ever seen/smelt). I had to do everything in my power not to vom.

We are home now with metacam and antibiotics and hoping that it clears up but if it does refill then they want to give her a GA to get rid of it properly

Sounds like an abscess. They're pretty grim aren't they, I hate flushing them out.

Fingers crossed that's the end of it!

Yes she did confirm it was an abscess. I'm hoping it clears quick because I don't think my stomach can cope with all the flushing lol

Blimey, that sounds grim. Hope the antibiotics clear it up.

I've dealt with abscesses before... they smell unbelievably terrible, but it's important to keep them flushed. Hang in there... hope things are improving!

Perhaps ask you vet for a plastic flexible teet cannula , and a 15 ml syringe ! it will aid flushing

Isobel is doing really well. The antibiotics seem to be doing the trick. Her face has gone down (only a very tiny lump there now) and she is gaining a bit of weight again. Her tooth teeth are not level so I'm keeping an eye on this incase there's a teeth problem or whether it's just been caused by the abscess
