Are they experienced with dentals as that is the main issue at the moment. She wants to eat but is really struggling xJust looked it up. Its Ross Machin thats the specialist Meet The Hinckley Vet Team | Vets4Pets this is where my current vets refer to now if its outside of their expertise, they used to refer to Craig at Chine House in Sileby
Thanks I'll take a look xYes, when did you ring them? Was it this morning? Get online and book it quickly before it goes xx
I just managed to book it finally. Was having trouble logging in so I put her in my mums name.Do u think they'll do dental work when I take her as she desperately needs it xIt will say guinea pig consult not including dental work, but still book it.
Yes it shouldn't be a problem. Which appt did you get? XI just managed to book it finally. Was having trouble logging in so I put her in my mums name.Do you think they'll do dental work when I take her as she desperately needs it x

My local vet didn't even want to prescribe it.He said I should think about having her put to sleep and said metacam wouldn't help.I had to practically beg for it.@Gem789 Teeth problems can cause pain. The teeth could be cutting into her mouth, or she may have ulcers.
So either, or both could be causing it.
Can you call you local vet to see if they will increase the Metacam dose?

Thanks, I think I will call the cat and rabbit clinic tomorrow to see if I can give a bit more as she looks really down and in pain. She also keeps grinding her teeth. That's terrible. I've experienced a vet like that. It's really not helpful at all encountering someone so pessimistic.
If you really think she needs more you could try ringing the out of hours emergency vet for advice. They might be able to advise.
Or you could try ringing Cat and Rabbit tomorrow for advice
If not, you're doing your very best. Keep her comfortable and feed and water her as needed and see what Kim thinks at the appointment. Kim is fab so she'll do the best for your piggy.
Ok, I think I will up the dosage to that then.Mummy pig weighs 722g currently xI'm currently giving Benji 0.3 ml metacam, twice a day and he weighs 680g.
He examined her and found a small bladder stone which he pulled out and he did her teeth and the nurse injected fluids as she was dehydrated.Simon said her kidneys felt strange and I said is there a way to test their function and he said a blood test but wouldn't do it yet as it would finish her off.As a bladder stone was found, do I need to change her diet? xKeeping everything crossed that Simon will be able to help. x
Have a look at the vet locator, they are all savvy vets. Hopefully you will find someone there. My 4 year old(if her age was correct when I took her on)female guinea pig appears to have swollen genitals. She is still eating but has been loosing weight.I have been syringe feeding and giving metacam for the time being. She has a look in her eyes which makes me think she's in pain.Ill be ringing my local vets in the morning although they're not cavy savvy I'm hoping they can help.Ive been away for 2 weeks and came back Saturday evening and my friend who was feeding the pigs noticed she seemed lighter but didn't notice the genital swelling so not sure how long this has been a problem for.Does anyone have any ideas on what could be the problem?
He just said they were long.Yes I hope she'll feel more comfortable now. Thanks for the advice. My main priority is getting her to eat again xFor now I wouldn't go changing diet, but would want to get her eating and putting a bit of weight on. Did Simon say her teeth were particularly bad? Just removing the urethral stone will help make her feel better and hopefully she may start to eat a little more as she will feel less uncomfortable xx
He didn't say but I imagine it was xI am guessing it was the urethral stone that was causing the swelling to the genitals?
I'm still on the bus bk to daventry but will start with the syringe feeding as soon as I get bk.I went to tescos and bought some fruit and veg and she's much more interested in it than before and is trying to eat but is still struggling xHow does she seem now? Make sure you get as much syringe food into her to build up her strength now xx
She's booked in for Monday and I will xIt'll take a while for her to get used to eating again. Cut veg into strips. When does Simon want to see her again? X
