sorry its not very good quality

Get her to the vets in the morning as it may needan antibiotic if it's an infection.

i only took her to the vets 2 days ago and he missed it completely- and he missed the fact she might have a urine infection....so would you trust the vet who didn't want to give you anti biotics for anything in the first place?

If you're really unhappy with your vet try a different vet. Nobody's infallable though - we have had the same vet for 12 years and he has got it wrong on occasion. Sometimes you just have to go back when something doesn't improve.

I have a degu who recently lost a foot when a minor injury turned into gangrene.

Already sorted it out now :) I gave her some stuff for cystis (however you spell it :) ) and for mild UTIs- a human liquid medicine (of course diluted and not as much) and it seems to have done the trick wonderfully :)

The vet missed this even though i mentioned this but all that matters is that she is cleared up on the urine and now to solve the foot mystery! :)

spoke to vet now- could be infection, broken or dislocation and will be seeing him again tomorrow for xray :(

she had to have 2 injections and she cried out so loud :(

No He isn't because of where it is he said he can use a dental plate and it will be fine, so no luckily not

ok update:

Poc has had her xray (with no GA cos shes a good piggie :]) and it shows an infection in the bone in her leg. They said there is an outside chance its cancer(if she was any older they would be leaning more towards cancer)

So shes on 10 days of baytril and Metcam and fingers crossed she pulls through- even though she is still losing weight by the day, even though she is eating loads!

I'm sorry it wasn't better news but good that you've found the problem. Hope Poc starts feeling better soon. x

just got to take each day as it comes- besides atleast she is starting to make noises again- even if it does sound like wimpering

Hi Mart,

I've been reading with interest the posts to your lovely g pig. How gutting for you both, regardless of cancer or not, plenty of fingers, toes crossed etc. A big hug and hope the news improves over the next few days.

Fingers crossed that it is an infection and will clear! It must be so gutting for you and so very painful for your little girl!

I'm really sorry to hear about the problems your piggie has with her leg.

update- she is now slowly starting to refuse certain food and certain vegetables which is unusual for her- on her other foot the skin has broken down so that is now got cream on and bandaged and the infected leg has cream on as it is starting to break down.

Vet said if there isnt a vast improvement by thursday i may have to considering putting her down :( :( :( I'm so sad- i am doing the very best i can and nothings working.

Anyone know of any really good vitamin c supplement- i'm using abidec atm to try give her as much vitamins as possible.

Poor little thing! Can you get those dissolvable vitamin c's and syringe them some?

I appreciate what you meant on the other page my flopsy had 2 injections about a month ago and she screamed too. It's sore for them and heartbreaking.

i will try that then deffo :)

The injections almost made me cry- my mum said i looked like i was going to hit the vet he he :)

update- won't eat on her own now- having to syringe feed- added metatone and vit c supplement to list so she is now on

Baytril, Metacam, Abidec, Metatone, Vit C supplements, Syringe fed diet, and i am having to apply cream and bandages to both hind legs as the skin is breaking down.

The good news is she is now 500g after i have started the syringe feeding.

Keep up the good work! You're clearly dedicated and a loving mum to her. Fingers and toes crossed.

Are you near CCT, I would take her there before considering PTS.(get a second opinion)!

I understand she is young... I do hope she able to recover, sending healing wheeks keep us informed!

You are much nearer an ex forum member who may well be able to offer at least telephone advice. Tricky thing being you'll need to contact Niki, Ruth or Sunshine, who may pass his number on.

I think time is very much of the essence here.

well i got 3 vets helping me (one of which is an animal hospital), this forum, and a breeder friend of mine and i also got some advice of a rescue today too ( started blending veggies today and she loves it!)

She just needs to hang on for me and i will make her better :)
