We have a poorly piggie at the moment that we rescued in circumstances that I won't go in to at the moment.

She had terrible diarrhea when we got her at the end of last week and had also had two babies both of which died.

She went straight to the vets after we got her and I am pleased to say that her stomach has settled down with the probiotic and critical care and she has gone up from aroound 500g to 550g at todays weigh in.

She is now eating normally and is alot more active, but I noticed that both of her front paws seem quite swolen this afternoon.

Shes got a follow up appointment at 9.30am at the vets tomorrow anyway, but do I need to worry about the swolen paws before that?

It's not something I've seen in a piggie before, but I'm wondering if it's something like bumblefoot? She was treading around in her mess before we got her.

I have no idea, I just wanted to wish the best for this piggie. You could ask during your follow up appointment :)

Just back from the vets who confirmed our fears that she has bumblefoot in both of her front paws. The poor thing is also developing a bacterial skin infection.

This is probably down to the truly disgusting condition we found her being kept in. I'm still fuming with the person that let this happen to her and that thought she was a suitable candidate for breeding.

Anyway the good news is that removing the little scabs on her paws did let the vet remove a good deal of the puss and we now have a course of antibiotics to give her.

She is also up to 550g, a weight gain of 40g from last week.

The vet has advised that as well as the twice daily antibiotics that cleaning the infection with hibiscrub solution and a cotton bud needs to be done regularly.

She'll be back to the vets on Tuesday so fingers crossed for her recovery.

I used to sit Marbles (who had it in both her front feet) in a saline solution, also to help her gain weight, i left her with a neighbour in the day whilst I was at work who gave her another bathe during the day and fed her her fav foods to keep her interested.
Took 2 weeks, and we went through a really bad spell during that, she did get better, despite the abscesses spreading to her belly..
That was 15 years ago, the vets at the time still thought GP's were disposable pets, we've come along way since then, now we can give them pain relief.
Your piggy has a fighting chance, if Marbles can come back from the brink (and I mean she nearly got put down twice, it was her fighting spirit that stopped me) so can she ;)

The vet didn't mention pain relief, I'm concerned now. :(
