My guinea pig Jammy has taken to sitting in her pee again. Up until we've had no problems with her feet but I noticed last night one of her back feet has been looking a little tender. This morning when I checked on her it was (and still is) looking really swollen and she's been walking uncomfortably. I've managed to secure an appointment at my vets for Wednesday, I couldn't get anything sooner. But is there anything I can do in the meantime to help her feel more comfortable. I gave her foot a bit of a soak in some warm water and she was definitely happier after but is there anything I can be doing till she sees the vets? It's not nice to see her hobbling about :(

Sounds like bumblefoot. Try soaking in warm water as you have been, maybe with a little added salt. It may help soothe the skin. If its true bumblefoot your piggie will need some antibiotics.

Sending your little one love!

Have you got any Kwench lotion in you piggie medicine cupboard? That might help soothe it a bit.

It did concern me that it might be bumblefoot so I booked an appointment without hesitation, just to be sure. I will give her foot another soak with some salt added after she has finished her devouring her veggies. Thank you, I'm sure she would share a carrot with you for your kind words!

I placed an order for some this morning, as I've used the perfect paws on her feet before but she didn't appear to like it and would chew her feet whenever I applied it, even the smallest amount! Thanks for the recommendation though!

Dutch had a really raw foot a while back, I'm guessing from sitting in pee. I gave it a coating of aloe vera Vaseline twice a day and this acted as a barrier from the most likely stinging sore skin and any further irritation. I hope Jammy feels better :(

I think I may have to try that with her. She goes through stages of insisting in sitting in her pee and not. Did the Vaseline work well? Thankyou, me too!

Yeah worked wonders, back to normal colour foot after one night. So much so I didn't mind having to buy a new Vaseline for myself!

That's good to hear for little Dutch! I will have to try this tip. Thankyou! It amazes me that she'd prefer to sit in her pee rather than on her cosymallethead

Exactly! I spent so long sewing up cosy tunnels and beds and then he goes and lies in a corner where he has wee'd!
