my OH's mother showed me her guinea pig today, and it had a rather obvious lump on its one side. she pointed it out to me and asked what it could be. & this is the best place i could think to ask!

it's on his lower right side, and he doesn't seem to be in pain. when we touched it he just wriggled a bit and flipped his head. but nothing nasty.

was just wondering what it could be? i've put a picture up, it's not the clearest but it's the best i could get!

merry christmas to all :)

A vet is the only person who can answer that question. With no info as to his age, if it is definitely a male, how long it's been like that, how long it took to get that size, is it hard/soft, what is the health history on the pig, when did he last see a vet - the list could go on for ages.

The simple answer is please take him to a vet as soon as possible. His behaviour you describe indicates discomfort.

thanks for that :)

he is definitely a male, and he's 1 & 1/2 i think?! it's only been like it the past few days, and she's had him for about 4 months. it's quite a soft lump, and as to her knowledge the piggy has had no health problems in the past!

I would advise stopping all veg and making an appointment as soon as possible. Keep a very close eye on him and if it enlarges, he stops eating or pooing, or he fluffs up I would phone the emergency vet - do not delay if his condition worsens.
