Emergency Swollen Stomach - Pooping Ok ***urgent**

I will ask about the mentioned meds. Every time I've mentioned something from on here to my old vet it got shrugged off tho

I trust you guys more as you're all very caring and knowledgeable. I don't trust many vets with small animals x

You should find gripe water in the small shops that are still open, or at petrol station garages. It is important to keep things that may be helping going through his system regularly.

Also, if you are unable to care for him yourself tomorrow as you are working, please drop your boy off at your usual vets so that meds/syringe food can be given as necessary throughout the day.

That's so annoying. That makes me angry! An old-school vet stuck in his ways by the sounds of it x

I'd love to have them care for him but I can't afford any more. I don't think they'd do much anyway. They left him for hours today! They charge a fortune to look after him. I didn't have the £350 I needed to spend today and it won't end there.

I've already had lots of time off due to my own illness so I have to work.

I can't run around anymore tonight.

I can't deal with anymore of this to be honest. I'm doing my best.

It may sound like a daft question, and I apologise if it is, but if you live near work can you nip back in your lunch break to massage him?

I finish at 3 tomorrow and so won't get a lunch x

Thanks guys. I'm just exhausted to be honest.

Gonna grab an hours sleep then do the toothbrush thing.

If I can direct the hubby to find Gripe water tonight I will x

Good luck - all here if you need any more advice!

I can only reiterate what @MintyAndGarry has already said. If your piggy is still not doing well in the morning you really do need someone to provide supportive care for him. I understand you are feeling very tired and I can sympathise big time, as what you are doing at the moment is pretty much what I do every day of my life, in addition to working full time in my pet care business. However, the supportive care is as important as, if not more important than the veterinary treatment. It really can pay dividends.

Not being rude but if I don't go to work I lose my job! It's not just about being tired!

Jesus.

All I can find is Infacol? I've read that's not ideal?

I know opinions differ about infacol but my vet does prescribe it. I've used dentinox when I couldn't get gripe water. Hope this helps x

Sorry to say but all my family and friends work too and would probably tell me to get a grip as it's just a guinea pig.

He isn't just a guinea pig to me but I am doing my best. I do not have much more money to spend and cannot just leave work.

At the moment he is eating, drinking and pooping so fingers crossed.

A couple of you are making me feel awful and I don't need it.

Sorry I came here.

If I'd just listened to my vet she didn't recommend i do anything but watch and wait.

People just want to help you. I'm sorry you feel pressured. We do all understand the difficulties of juggling work, home, family and pets. You clearly care about your piggy and have seen a vet at huge expense. Chin up and try to stay positive. Forum members only want to offer support to you and your piggy. You are free to take or ignore that advice as you wish. All I'd say is that it's been well intentioned.

Hesitant to use Infacol incase it harms him. Argh don't know what to do for the best.

I have read a lot recently that Olive oil can also be very helpful as it can help breaking down the bubbles - perhaps 0.3ml of that could help. Although do wait for one of the more seasoned posters to confirm whether this would be ok to give.

Eating drinking and pooping are great signs

Just given some Infacol and a quick go with an electric toothbrush on his sides.

The stomach has got bigger since we got home.

It's heartbreaking :(

Just given some Fibreplex and was told to start the Baytril tomorrow

Sorry for my outburst just feel guilty I can't do as much as I need to.

Oh Ishy my heart goes out to you. What a horrible position to be in. xx

:hug:I think it's understandable that you are on edge with it all. All we can do is what we can, and sometimes that's limited by factors such as jobs, family issues etc. The timing of this episode is very unlucky and no wonder you are stressed out.

From what I understand, his breathing is of concern too? Is that correct? Had he stopped eating properly because of his breathing problem? I am just trying to figure out what could have caused the bloat and I am thinking that maybe he wasn't eating much due to having a respiratory infection and the lack of food passing through his system caused him to become gassy. I am just worried that he needs some proper gut mobility drugs but you do say that he is eating a little now so that is good. Have you syringe fed him at all? My concern about this is that with having a respiratory problem, it could make him more susceptible to aspirating syringe food, and we really don't want that to happen. Is he moving around at all? The more he moves about the more likely he is to pass any gas and get things moving well in his guts.
