I was giving my lovely old boar, Oscar, a weekly check today and found that one of his testicles is swollen and has got a slight wound on it, as if he's been itching. I put some gentle anti-septic on it that didn't seem to bother him too much. He's 5 years old and has a history of sensitive skin. He started his boyhood on woodshavings but was sensitive to that, so switched to fleece...again, not great, so my boars (I have three) have been on newspaper topped with a thick layer of hay for around 3-4 years, which works well for them. I wondered if a piece of hay could've poked him in his testicle, and it's been bothering him, so he's been itching it, hence the slight scarring?

I will get him to a vet on Monday, but was just wondering if anyone else has any experience of this?

Good that you are having him seen. It can well be that he has got a bit of an infection or irritation from a hay scratch, and the scratching has made it worse, but without seeing and handling your boy, all we can do is guess. I hope that it is something that can be sorted easily!

Thanks Wiebke, he's the biggest of the three boars, and the most brave by far, and he's not afraid of anything, but boy, does he get himself into some scrapes!

Ha ha ha ha...dangleberries! Why are boars' dangleberries so mahoosive anyway? All three of my piggy boys are well-endowed!
My thoughts exactly! And why do they let themselves get who knows what, stuck in their you know where!? I've just changed my boys over to fleece from hay/shavings as Mr Percy isn't too great in the personal grooming department. How on Earth do you manage to keep your boys clean?
