So, me and my mom were cleaning out our guinea pig’s cages, when I noticed that one of my male pigs has a swollen toe on his right back foot. It’s all red and stuff. But surprisingly, it doesn’t seem to be affecting him. He’s moving and running around as if everything’s okay. Plus, he’s eating and drinking normally. My mom found something to put on his foot for now, but is there anything else we can do to stay 100% safe?

If the nail bed of that toe gets infected, this can cause the toe to be swollen. In which case he will need to be taken to a vet.

Hi

He's probably stubbed the toe, caught the nail on something (but not as badly as to rip it off) or broken a little bone.

Please keep an eye on it; you need to see a vet if there are signs of an infection and the swelling gets worse. Check the same toe on the other foot as a comparison if you are unsure.

Thank you all for the suggestions :) it’s been a day since I made this post and Pancho (the guinea pig with the swollen toe) is still doing good and walking around.

I also forgot to attach an image of what his foot looks like but here’s how it currently is.
