Hello, hope everyone is okay and having a good day! Today when I woke up and went to say good morning to piggies, I immediately noticed misty had her eye swollen and with like tears, I got so stress and went right away grab the saline solution to wash her eye! She has been completly fine, yesterday her eye was normal and she wasn't itching nor anything! Right now she is itching sometimes and I am trying to keep a close look but i am so stressed because if needed i cant take her to the vet until Monday! What do you guys think? Maybe just got hay stuck in her eye and now its bothering her? Or is it something more serious? (shes been fine, eating, pooping, running etc)
Thank you so much for your help,
Happy wheeks for all!

Hi!

Please have the eye vet checked for a non-ulcerating hay poke or something firmly stuck under the lid.
Eye injuries count as a priority for vets as they can deteriorate very quickly if not treated with antibiotic drops in time. Treatment and medication is the same as in cats or dogs, so any vet will do.

vets are still open despite the pandemic. If you call your vet their voicemail will explain where you can go even if they themselves are closed.
Eye problems really can’t wait for multiple days x

I am aware about that, but in my coubtry both today and tomorrow are holy days, so everything is closed! (including my vet)

Please don't treat on spec and see a vet as soon as you can.
If you can get to a pharmacy or supermarket for some plain artificial tear gel (preferably as it is much easier to apply and longer lasting) or drops to help keep the weeping eye hydrated and soothe the itchiness from a dry painful eye somewhat, then you can do that safely about every 8 hours.

PS: It would really help us if you please added your country and/or state or province to location in your account details so you get any advice that is adjusted to what is relevant for where you are straight away instead of our UK based default.
You can access your account details by clicking on your username on the top bar. This will make your country/state appear with every post you make, so we only have to take a quick look to the left to tell you exactly what you need where you are.
We jump between lots of different threads from all kind of people every single day. When you are doing that for a few years, you simply lose the ability to remember everything about everyone a few 10,000 posts and several hundred new members or so down the line...

All the best! With the right medication, your piggy will recover quickly. Eyes can go bad very quickly but they also heal very quickly if you catch it in time. The eye is not bloody but it is drawn in and painful.

When applying the antibiotic drops or gel, pull the lower lid a bit away and aim at the gap. If you can get somebody else to hold her it may be easier as she won't like anything getting hear her sore eye.
