I just had to share this with everyone as I was so amazed.
I have 2 girl Guinea pigs (Ebony and Amber) and a boy (Syd) who I've just aquired from a friend. I've had them housed next to each other in store bought cages in the kitchen (as Syds still intact) but as I'm in the process of moving house I'd set up my new C & C cage upstairs under my daughters mid rise bed and put the girls in there. I leave Syds cage door open when I'm at home so he can have a little roam and he's now quite confident and follows me about. Well I'd sat down to watch the football and only when I was going to bed realised he hadn't gone back in his cage as usual. After calling him and looking everywhere for 10 minutes I started to panick and ran upstairs to get my shoes thinking he may have got out when I'd gone to the car earlier. I needn't have worried as there he was curled up next to the girls cage. I couldn't believe he'd climbed the stairs and found them. I'm assuming he must have heard them or got their scent. I've decided now even though he's 4 and lived alone all his life, he really needs a friend but I'm not sure what's best though. Maybe a neutered male.

Oh the pheromones :)) You're lucky that the cages are store bought ones because it they were c&c he might have climbed to the girls one by now.

By the way! Neutering males doesn't affect their behaviour! Saying this because you mentioned getting him a neutered boy as cage mate.

Hi, yes I know it doesn't alter their behaviour but you don't tend to get neutered girls as I know it's a bigger op for them. I thought a neutered boy as then if anything happened to Syd (he is over 4), I wouldn't have the same problem and could possibly put the other one with the girls. I'm going to have a look at some rescue centres in a few weeks when I've moved house. X

Oh naughty syd! :xd: his love will conquer all obstacles.

I don't know how he knew where they were unless he heard them or has a good nose. He's had to come from the kitchen, through the lounge into the hall, up the stairs and down the landing into my daughters room. I have actually filmed him today going up the stairs as now he's been up there once, that's were he wants to go all the time

Oh I see! Just wanted to tell you because there is a lot of people that think that neutering changes their behaviour and that way it's just taking a risk without real reason!
Btw, when quoting someone, after inserting the quote in the message, instead of posting the reply, just press enter and keep writing your message, that way both things will be together and not in different posts!

Sorry I don't normally post anything but love reading about piggys. So if I get a message I just type back underneath and press post reply, is that right.

Nono, didn't mean that in a bad way! You can answer whenever you want of course! It's just that you're not doing the quoting thing right and can't blame you because at first I was also confused by it XD

Hello :)

You are posting okay normally. Is it when you are trying to quote it is not working?

Or is it you cant post video?

posting video - on iphone

Cant post videos on the forum we don't have the bandwidth to store them. We would have to send all the pigs down the mine to raise money. The way to post video is to upload it to youtube then post the link - the forum then embeds it in the page :)

Oh boars know . Archie is always straight in to interrupt me and my bf and I'm not even a guinea pig.

When I took Panda to Little Pip's to make some new friends, I could see his little nose sniffing like mad, as he caught the scent of the other pigs. He wasn't in the same room as them at the time. They have VERY good noses :)
