I'm taking Herminone to the vets this evening and need as much info as I can to take with me.

She had a severe fungal infection last year which we managed to clear up but I think, from what I've read, it may have got into her system.

Her symtoms are:

  • Very, very slight laboured breathing, not enough to induce panic but enough for me to notice. I had her checked out by my auntie (who runs a rescue) and she couldn't hear any fluid or rasping on her lungs so I've no idea what that's about.
  • Wet bum, not diarrhea as she's still pooping but somethings not right down there. She's had pro-biotics which haven't helped.
  • Her ears and the top of her nose still get fungal from time to time, even after repeated treatment. (she's been treated for parasites too, just in case)
  • A not-very-nice smell.

She's not losing weight and she's not ill, in fact while I was twisting myself up in knots last night researching what could be wrong with her she was popcorning all over the place!

My vet is a wonderful caring lady who takes my piggies seriously but she's not a cavy specialist, therefore I want to go armed with as much info as I can so I feel confident in her treatment.

Does this sound like systemic fungal? If it does which is best, Itrafungol or Griseofulvion and what would be the correct dosage for a 1400g pig?

Any help would be SO appreciated.
Ree x

I would get a cavy experts advise on this. Systemic fungal infections need to be treated effectivly and with experience. I wouldnt like to give any advise incase it were wrong. I hope your piggie starts feeling better soon. :(

x.
