Hello everyone

Before i had my 2 wee girls, we used to go away overnight or for the weekend on city breaks. Obviously, things have changed. Has anyone taken their GPs with them to a B & B, cottage or hotel? i have foldaway ball pit which they use as a play pen which could easily be packed away.

Is it kinder to leave them at home with someone checking on them (not keen at all) or in someone else's home they don't know, or in a GP kennels? or take them with you and its just the strange environment but at least they are with you?

i know what i would like to do but would other people's opinions/advice...:)

I come to Nottingham for weekends many times and we bring the pigs with us. However, they are staying at my parents house! If we go away elsewhere for a night or two, I have very trusting neighbours who pop round and feed them, cover them up etc. if we go on holiday for a week, we use a small animal hotel that we trust. You could take the piggies to the hotels with you but you would need to ask permission I would think.

I would think you would need the hotels permission too and to know how big the room is to ensure that they fit! Mine always stay at home but then my parents house is a 3 min walk away and my mum will come in at least once a day to see to them

At Christmas, I left my pigs alone for 48 hours with a neighbour coming in to feed them (with instructions to stay for a bit, talk to them etc.) and all was fine. I often spend full days in the same room as my guinea pigs (weekends, school holidays etc.) and they mostly sleep, with about an hour activity / feeding every five hours or so, so really they would only have been 'alone' for a wee bit (asleep the rest of the time, blissfully unaware!). We decided not to take our GPs away with us as weren't sure about the journey time and new environment having an impact on them. I may be over sensitive but I thought I read somewhere about changes / loud unusual noises having a negative impact on their health. Maybe I mollycoddle them too much though! Interested to hear other's opinions, especailly about boarding.

Could you tell me what small animal hotel you use? Thank you.

Hi Bessiehen

Yeah, i know what you mean, my GPs are in the living room with us and i spend most of the night and weekends with them, and as you say, there is very little movement, apart from the odd hour or so. I do feel bad about not spending more time with them but remembered someone here said that GPs don't mind if they are not handled. Mine couldn't give a ? hehehe little devils...i love them anyway.. they only like me when i have food! I was trying to work out what would be best, at home in safe familiar environment or away with me (this is probably the best solution for me and the not the GPs) where i can care for them. I think your right and best to keep them in their own home...boohooo.. i'm not going away now! ever! problem solved...

never realised i could care so much....
