I'm not planing on doing this but it got me wondering. Has anyone ever done this? is it safe?

if someone where to move or something, would the guinea pig have trouble with the altitude or the noise or anything?

I have no idea but interesting question ;D I don't know if I could do it to my pigs, I'm sure they'd be scared and tramatised afterwards

Oooooooooooo I don't know. I don't see why they should be any different to any other animal, and other animals are transfered by planes all the time (not in hand luggage to go on holiday!). After all, once we are in a plane we don't have 'altitude trouble'. I should imagine, and this is only a speculative guess, that they'd hide away for the take off and landing ! :)

i wonder is there ears would pop like ours do when takin off or landing. ?
I would be worried about tht if they did

It's also v expensive - I was quoted £450 to get my piggies from the UK to Barcelona... :o

I'm sure it would stress them out though - I only got the quote as I've got the option of living in Spain or here...in the end we figured out the easiest way (besides taking my own car and making the journey last several days) would be on a bus...early season with a half empty bus belonging to one of the UK operators. They could stay on in their cage and be attached to the seat, where they could still see me and it would be relatively smooth...bit of a palaver for them still though eh?! ::) So, for the time being, they are staying put (as am I)! :smitten:

It is quite common for ACS to fly pigs interstate to their new homes. There doesnt seem to be any problems.

I don't think the idea was that they went on holiday :D I think it was more about perhaps people moving abroad or'show guineas' going to new homes etc.

since i got my piggies 5years ago i don't go abroad any more just because i don't like leaving my gunniepigs with any1 Else so in the summer we go days out in the car take their food water and run and we go to the countryside for a picnic and they love it and i enjoy it to O0 O0 O0

Nicky your as nuts as me ;D ;D ;D
IF Kyle would let me have my own way then our 9 piggies and Corey cat could also come out in "Clifford the Big Grey Van!" (7 seater people carrier) and the kids could just be tied on the roof.

At least you could take them - when I moved from Germany to the UK a few years ago, I was told I could not take them on the plane! So they had to come with the ferry...

I would worry that they wouldn't put the heating or whatever they put in the hold on :S and cause them to freeze.

It would depend on the airline and most would want them to go as animal cargo (i.e. in a heated and pressurised hold). Don't particularly like the thought of that!

Peter just said the pig would explode because of the pressure! 98) I don't think he is awake yet! ;D

I hate the thought of taking a piggy on an airplane (unless it was one of those little ones when the piggy could sit on my lap!). There is no way I could put any animal in the hold.

I couldnt do it to Merlin - Id be terribly worried about his little ears

Knowing him though he'd just yawn and sleep through it
